Prisons during a Z-Apoc

If there were a zombie apocalypse or any other National security, what would happen to prison inmates, would they be stuck, transported, or what? I think this would be a major problem in America because of the millions of people we have as inmates.

well, i'd personally leave them there. but it might be good, if no out break happened inside cell. they cant get out. so it wouldn't really spread

I'd leave them there, unless they were helpful, because not everyone in Jail is bad, at least in my opinion. But I would not care too much because it has nothing to do with me, less zombies like you said!

I don't know about the US but in Aus nearly 80% of people behind bars are there for crimes of poverty such as non-payment of fines or stealing to survive, a situation everyone would soon be in in a Zpoc. I would hope they would be released to fend for themselves, the guys in Max Security I'd just leave there.

Well the US government is retarded and over a half a million people in Federal prisons are in for drug charges (55%). The rest are in for property damage, sex offenders, ect. I don't want to make this controversial but I think that the US government should focus on more serious crimes. I'd leave sex offenders and people like that behind or use as diversions.

Most likely, the would transport them all somewhere or let ones with neglegible crimes out and others with worse crimes, either into a fighting force like the dirty dozen, or leave them to die in the prisons. Or they would all be left there, or maybe they would let them all out.

If there was an apocalyptic scenario, the government would probably not focus as much on protecting prisoners. They'd probably be simply abandoned in the prisons, which means they'd probably have an easy enough escape.

My Uncle is a prison gaurd, he told me that under no circumstances would they move prisoners in a national emergency of any kind, which leads me to believe that they would keep them in the prisons untile either the zeds reached them and the infection started there or the outbrake was stoped. And while moving the gaurds families into the prison might be practicle, it would never happen.
