Repopulation after a global outbreak.
In lots of zombie films, the main character tends to run off with a woman with the intent to re populate the earth, but that would require in-breeding, which can weaken the genetic integrity of the future generations, not to mention that during the pregnancy the woman would be incapacitated, leaving the male to complete all the duties need to survive.
The best scenario would be 16 mating couples. this would mean that no inbreeding would occur, and if it did the blood line would be so modified, the risk of genetic mutation or deformities in the off spring would be so small it wouldn't matter. of course, have 32 people in the one place in a post apocalyptic world would be unrealistic. so 4 mating couples would be the minimum for a sound repopulating group.
any suggestions or thoughts?

You've thought about this a lot lol!
I think if a global outbreak occurs, the human race as we know it wouldn't survive. The people in bunkers you might as well forget about. The people who survive will be the ones in places that the infection can't get to. Such as small island communities in the indian ocean/pacific ocean or native indians up in alaksa etc
Those small communities will continue just the way they always have.
I think everyone else will be wiped out and sex will just be a way to pass the time until they get killed/die.

This based this on the scenario that a group has made it to a safe place, like an island on the ocean. but i you're right. humans would be almost completely wiped out.
oh and P.S in school we looked at the old adam and eve story, and how many mating couples it would take to eliminate genetic imperfections due to incest. so i thought i would apply it to this :P

I suppose the leader of said groups would have to force people to partake in 'mating' purely to enable the survival of the group. Otherwise in 30 years time, there would only be a handful of new members while the majority of the group would be old and useless.
Then again it would depend on the ratio of men to women, or even the type of people who survived.

Well this would be all eugenics. I wouldn't want just any morons, I would want the strongest and smartest people breeding so we have a bunch of michael phelps/einstein freaks running around.
