Okay so I have been thinking this for a while, now just thinking of the idea it wouldn’t be a weekend project but months if not years. So I was thinking while moving into a more
permanent settlement, you’d have to worry about zed, raiders, slavers, and other
such things. So why not use the homes where we used to live again? I mean all
you’d need is about two climbers and somebody (or group to drive around). So
have the car drive around making noise and trying to get every zed away, as
they drag those away have the climbers climb up a two story building, destroy
the stairs and take out zed on upper story. Then they could do it to a few
buildings depending on other such elements. Then they get picked up or meet at
a place where the car could pick them up, while that would be very dangerous
after getting a web of roof tops connected (rope bridges, walk ways, ect.) you
could move a city into the roof tops have climbers, open more rooftops. Think
you could have a safe place, and guard dogs (zed), while you’d be trapped in
there if needed you could try to gather the entire zed on one side and have a
team jump to find supplies.

My first version of this idea came from being in a hotel; stop elevators destroy the stairs, break a window and drop a rope. You could have a town living in one of these
hidden away.

i like it but i'd rather use a robot r/c car to than risk an actual person
What about food and water? Once the power goes out, food and water are the one thing you'll be looking for on an hourly basis. If you haven't eaten for a day or two, I doubt you'll be in shape to climb anything really. Nomads for the win! Oh, black type very hard to read...
Well for strength I was think that a pulley system its really easy to make, and could help all those to weak or incapable of climbing up, along with other items to heavy to carry. For the first months would require some gathering, till farming could be relied on as a permanent source. As for water I'd imagine moving to somewhere near water or where rain is easily available, then just boil it and drink, for near the water again making a pump is easy.
This idea has occurred to me before and I personally love the idea, providing you have the equipment to boil water and cook meat and you had some means of storing rain water (and you were in an area that got enough rain) you'd be pretty sweet I think. Also because of the level your at your going to be able to shoot lots of birds, provided you don't mind eating pigeon and gull meat. I think office buildings would be great as they will probably have vending machines and those water tanks with the polystyrene cups, also you have tons of desks to use for barricading, burning, lots of things. You will also have the luxury of stationary that you may not have had otherwise during the apoc, photocopy machines, you could make hundreds of fliers to contact other survivors of your whereabouts, or to mark your territory and then distribute them on a windy day from the rooftops. Depending on what sort of business may have operated, or type of people once lived in a building you can also be gifted with tons of things. For example if wealthy people lived in the apartment, nice clothes, living spaces, comfortable beds etc. If a food business, for instance a cereal business's promotional center operated out of the building there's probably going to be some of their stuff lying around and whatnot.

Obviously constructing the paths between buildings, and constructing ones durable enough for you to move safely between buildings and that won't be torn apart by weather conditions would be the most difficult part I think. A lot of buildings may have rain water tanks on top of them, which will be handy for starting off. Also if you found a building which may have been having renovations, repair work, banner being put up and has scaffolding up the side of it that would be pretty awesome. Even better if someone had been cleaning the windows and it has one of those pulley platforms going down the side. Also rooftop gardens would be good for renewable food sources, a place that has balconies that you can have gardens on also. I think there's lots of advantages to your idea and that its a good one. Would take some effort but it'd be good.
I always love intense moments ...
