Permalink Reply by Sebastian on April 21, 2011 at 3:24pm pro tip:it is utter and complete bullshit that shotguns aren´t accurate in more than a few meters, and if you are a hundred meters or more away of the zed,you shouldn´t waste your ammo anyway. As for people concerned by the bulkyness of rounds/reload time of the shotgun, try to get your hands on a AA-12, bring like three drums, and you´ll last the entirety of the z-poc.
PS. You could always just bring a secondary weapon with you, like a 9mm, for precision shooting (on a hundred meters) SS.
Permalink Reply by Sebastian on April 21, 2011 at 3:30pm oh, I forgot to mention that you can use all sorts of ammo for shotguns, like flechette rounds, grenades, slugs, and some rounds that seem to make your dear shotty a flamethrower for a while, which I am too lazy to google to find out its name.
Permalink Reply by James McDonald on April 21, 2011 at 5:28pm No your right shotguns are more accurate than a few meters. Ive seen them accurate upto 100 meters before. The problem is what type of ammo are you going to shoot? Slugs are accurate upto that range if your a great shot.
Like Ive said in previous post Im not a shotgun basher, but I'll be the first to say a shotgun is not going to be the best weapon you can carry. Im going to have one as my secondary backup. Its also going to be one of many guns I carry. Ammo for a shotgun is heavy, and one AA12 with three drums is hardly going to be enough for a whole zpoc. Any type of pandemic is going to take 6 months to a 2 years to play itself out, and no one knows how long its going to take for a zpoc to be over. 12 gauge ammo is heavy, and going to weigh you down. There are alot of rounds you can can carry, and carry a lot more of them. Like I said Im not a shotgun basher, but Im a realist. If a shotgun was the ultimate weapon for a situations like this. Everyone in the military would be carrying them. When I was in the military there were 3 shotguns in our who unit. 24 men, and only 3 carried a shotgun.
Permalink Reply by Sebastian on April 22, 2011 at 11:26am Shotguns sucks if your enemy has the ability to shoot you from a distance, and you die/ get immobilized by relatively small wounds. Zombies, however, cannot shoot you from a great distance, and can take a pretty massive amount of boom before it stops wanting your brains. While you have a point in that shotguns shells are relatively heavy, you could still carry +100 without any problems worth talking about.(also, you can find shotty-shells a little her and there and everywhere)
Also, you are NOT a realist. Whatever a weak 15yo like myself can kill at least a dozen of with a minimum of preparations, a trained guy from whatever army in the world will be able to kill thousands of. ½-2 years? More like ½-2 days.
ps. I apologize ahead for being somewhat of a flaming troll. ss.
Permalink Reply by James McDonald on April 22, 2011 at 12:11pm This is where age and experience brings practical knowledge. There never have been any zombies, and if there ever are zombies their not going ot be like they are in the movies. Zombies will be created by some sort of mutation, probably from a virus like rabies. Once a virus starts spreading in the modern mobile world we live in today, it will take literally 24-48 hours before it could spread all across the world. The military, police, and any form of law will be over run very quickly. When a virus starts to spread it spreads faster and faster as it goes. The CDC has issued thousands of reports about how unprepared our country, let alone the world is for dealing with a large scale pandemic.
General protocol for things of this nature is to contain the spread. So their going to quarantine those who are infected. Because of the want of the goverment to study and learn from everything, they wont start just killing off the infected right away which will give more time for the number of infected to rise rapidly. Once the decision comes down that they need to start killing the infected, there will be too many to handle with in days, even months. So they will quarantine large populations such as New York, and places that can be easily isolated. Trust me on this, there is no goverment who is prepared for this. There is no way a individual can plan for this either. Its just something you have to fight to survive, but its not going to be a over night thing. It will take years for everything to settle down.
P.S. I want to apologize for sounding like a arrogant ass, I have more experience with what is planned for and what is not. Ive worked both in the military, and in civilian life and seen what large scale mass casualty incidents will do to a well laid plan.
Permalink Reply by Sebastian on April 22, 2011 at 12:19pm There is no way a zed-disease could spread fast enough if it is only spread by bite and the like. Also, humans don't have enough material inside them to create a powerful enough mutation when we have dudes with TANKS.

Permalink Reply by Sebastian on April 22, 2011 at 12:38pm The point I was trying to make was that a bite-transferred wirus would be too unefficent, while an airborne would leave no-one behind, unless some people get resistant, which is highly impropable.
That aside, a rabid animal is easily killed, especially if it is the size of a human, and you have the ability to buckshot it 300 times a minute.

Permalink Reply by Ron Salter on April 14, 2011 at 10:25pm Advertising...... and movies say you need to throw lead around like there was no tomorrow. Every one wants hi-cap semi auto. Just another way to waste ammo.
Only prob with shotties is the ammo is bulky, other than that I like em!
Permalink Reply by Wildman Brown on April 15, 2011 at 8:58am Bulky ammo and in most cases have to be reloaded one round at a time.
It's not so much about throwing lead downrange. The three things you need to do is be able to move, shoot and communicate. The limited ammo capacity of the shotgun limits one's ability to shoot, there's also the range issue.
Patrick's bear scenario is valid, but I would put it pretty far down the list as far as threat levels go...
