One weapon that almost everyone has an opinion on is shotguns.  Max Brooks wrote in The Zombie Survival Guide that they are not as great as everyone thinks they are.  While many people consider them a primary weapon.
People will tell you they don't have enough range, or their shells are too bulky.  People also say that they take too long to reload.  If you support this weapon some arguments would be that it has the ability to stop zombies in their tracks.  Also if a zombie is too far away to be hit with a shotgun, why fight it instead of running away.  Shotguns are easier to aim than rifles, and when zombies approach and you are too nervous to think you need a shotgun to stand a chance of defeating a zombie.  Runners go to fast for someone to get a head shot with a rifle, but with a shotgun the spread of the shot allows a more sure kill.
I personally consider a shotgun a primary weapon, but let me hear your ideas.

It's probably a good thing Max Brooks became a writer and not a soldier or a cop.

WHY???!!!!

If he follows his own advice, he's gonna be the first one dead and turned.
I think although Zombie Survival Guide is good, the section on weapons needs to be fixed.

i think it's pretty good. He got everythin right, at least.

You really believe he got everything in the weapons section right?
....no, he'll have room for enough ammo to actually get out of his own town
From what I recall when I read the ZSG Brooks touted the .22 lr, bicycle and katana. The way I see it he should shave his head then use permanent marker to put .22 lr, K and B on his head.

Motorbikes will be usefull bro. Try getting through a pileup in a car. Its not gonna work. Yeah, there are a few safety problems with it, but it is useful. And he didnt say anything about the katana being his choice. He said "if you had proper training", then use it. The crowbar, in his eyes, and my eyes, would be the choice of melee weapons. Yeah, I forgot what he said about the 22, so I'm not going to rant about that, soooooooo........................... BYE!!!

I'm pretty sure his weapon of choice was the machete, not the crowbar, look at the cover of the book and you'll see that.
he said crowbar is best club, but a katana is best overall.  Only one problem, decapitation is realllllllly hard.

Im not going to argue for katana's, crowbars, bats, machetes or whatever. I believe relying on any such weapon is dumb as all hell. I will though argue for one thing. Depending on how rotten a zombie is greatly going to effect how easy, or hard it is to take his head off. In the book Brooks(who is a great FICTION writer) talks about one shot blowing a head off, its a good possibility that if the corpse is rotten enough the head could come right off.

I once ran a call when I was working as a medic, where we found a man who had been dead for a week or two. As the coroners guys were lifting him, the excess weight on his spine coupled with the bloated muscles, and decaying flash his spine broke and the corpse folded like the paper. Trust me decaying flesh can become very soft, especially when not embalmed properly.
