One weapon that almost everyone has an opinion on is shotguns.  Max Brooks wrote in The Zombie Survival Guide that they are not as great as everyone thinks they are.  While many people consider them a primary weapon.
People will tell you they don't have enough range, or their shells are too bulky.  People also say that they take too long to reload.  If you support this weapon some arguments would be that it has the ability to stop zombies in their tracks.  Also if a zombie is too far away to be hit with a shotgun, why fight it instead of running away.  Shotguns are easier to aim than rifles, and when zombies approach and you are too nervous to think you need a shotgun to stand a chance of defeating a zombie.  Runners go to fast for someone to get a head shot with a rifle, but with a shotgun the spread of the shot allows a more sure kill.
I personally consider a shotgun a primary weapon, but let me hear your ideas.

Are there really only 20? I would have assumed there were a few more than that. Either way, tough to get a hold of, and by tough I mean near impossible.

uh there is WAY more than just 20 AA12 shotguns in the world, there are 20 of the original models in the world made by Max Atchisson in 1972 until 1988 when the weapon is transferred and made by Jerry Baber of Military Police Systems, Inc., Piney Flats, Tennessee. 'MPS' then given the name when it was finished in 2005 thus making the 'communist law' noneffective......sorry Big Daddy but whatever shotgun your reffering to is not associated with this one.

need another link, they made 20 for testing for the marines, then 42 for the HAMMER unmanned defense system prototypes *i soo want under that babies hood* that have one for each turret, then there are the army models that were made separately so they could test both branches at the same time. civilian semi auto models that I WAS SO CLOSE TO GETTING ONE are being sold *until next year when they are discontinued due to lack of business because some dick likes to OVERPRICE IT!!!!!* and then there are also the ones being used for the AutoCopter prototypes being commissioned...unless your trying to say they divided 20 into 136 different tests that happened at the same time across the country then sure your right...

Saiga 12 Shotguns are semi auto and way more available. You can get mags from 5 to 20 rounds for them. They are priced more then reasonable. Competitors are showing the guns mettle in 3 gun competitions around the world. I've never even seen an AA12 in person. I doubt most on this site have. I'd go with something proven, inexpensive and available.

Shotguns are far from just extra weight. I'd trust my life to what I can do with my Mossy 500 Persuader and some 00 buckshot

now i love those, they have AK conversion kits but i still have yet to get the shotgun itself....

they also have the SRM Arms Model 1216, mag loads like the P90 *except under the barrel* but its compact models are like home sawed off shotguns so i would like to grab the longer 18 inch barrel when they become more available.......

i cant find my link either, all i get is Massachusetts for Portuguese speakers and Xe Services wont post there stuff anymore since the weapons theft in Afghanistan. *thats where i first heard of the weapon in 06 when they made it there primary replacement for the Mossberg*

I'd kill more!!! Then I'd kill any poor unfortunate cop who tries to arrest me.
Pwned
Saiga-12 and benelli m3/m4 are better if your are on the run.  They weigh less.
unless your in the military, in the videogame, or have 5k too throw around i do not recommend.

I would carry a shotgun, but not as a primary or for zombies killings, if anything it would be more for protection against people

Theres more than 20 aa12s!!!
