I am unsure if a discussion like this has arouse, but anyhow without further adieu.

So your at work, at home, or out too lunch with a loved one, where ever or whatever it be. And your hear wind of oddities happening around your town, country, etc. Sounds like a undead rising. The media may distort the situation. Too unclear too be a hoax or a reality.

How long would it take you get it in gear and get ready? Let's be realistic, Something of this magnitude would not start out horribly fast. But at a slow steady pace.

How long would it take before you really started too see what was happening? Some may bug out and wait, some, it may take the grim realization of your neighbors being consumed in the very streets in front of your home. And some may lock the doors, close the shades and wait for rescue.

What i am really trying to say is, how would you react in the incubation state of an outbreak? What would be some actions and precautions you would fulfill too keep your loved ones and yourself safe?

Keep in mind the panic and chaos that would ensue within the first couple hours, days, etc. Congested roadways, looters, riots, and flocks of panicked citizens trying to escape any way possible. Not too mention law enforcement/military intervention. The whole sha-bam

I'm likely to see the beginnings a little before other because of my job. People being unresponsive, attacking others and biting them. Yeah, I think I'll hear those calls over the radio. I am ready. If I see something happening I may pick up some items I think might come in handy but I've got what I need now. I will contact those who have been predetermined and let them know where to go and what to do. I will likely be in the shit from the beginning until we can no longer hold out. I believe I'll be at an advantage because I know. If you know and have some belief you will be ahead of the curve. You will have it in your head how to react before the others know something is screwed up. I've got people who I know will take their cue from me too.

You know, my first thought here is the same thought I had while watching Resident Evil: why do people in these situations always act like they've never seen a zombie movie before?  That's part of why I thought Mira Grant's FEED was so awesome. It was zombie lit that acknowledged the existence and popularity of other zombie lit, so she had people responding in more realistic ways- "Zombies? No way that's a hoax- but let's try for head shots anyway. Hey, it works!" as opposed to total confusion as though there was no frame of reference for something like this. Realistically, I bet there are a lot of people out there- most of us on this site included- who have seen enough movies and read enough that we're going to have some kind of cultural reference point for a response, which may actually really help with the reaction times for most people.

Personally, I'll be saying "Yesssss! I have waited SO LONG for this day!" I'll also be really busy, since I work at the local funeral home.
Well, I think why most people would be killed by the zeds is, because they would be completely shocked by the whole situation. Unlike everyone on this site, most people believe zombies are a myth and would not be able to accept it as a reality, even if it is ripping their face off.

In all my reading, film-viewing, and hours of idle and slightly odd speculation, I've arrived at a basic theory for dealing with pretty much any crisis.  If it's coming at you, deal with it now.  Figure out whether it's real later

You're right, though.  Most people would stand around in stunned disbelief until they start shambling around moaning and biting.

Hell, even if they eventually understood what was going on, they still wouldn't be able to admit to themselves they are zombies.

Idiot: "These people are infected with some virus that cause them to come back from the dead and eat people."

Genius: "Maybe they're........... ZOMBIES."

Idiot: "You're an idiot."

Yup.  Let's face it- it's all up to us, people.

Or this is how 90% of humanity will react:

Human(idiot): Hey man, you okay?(the man is shabling toward him, bleeding from the stump of what is left of his arm).

Zed: GARRRRRRROOOOAANN.

Human: You wan tme to call the police? Hey, back off. BACK OFF!

Zed: Grrr.. *rips chunk of flesh from the idiots arm*

Human: HEY STOP THAT! BACK OFF, YOU LUNATIC! *turns to zed approching from behind him* Help me out here!

Zed 2: Grrrrrrrr...*bites human*

Idiot: WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? IM TELLING!

i would like to say i'd be ready for the outbreak but i probably wouldn't be... i always viewed it as play with the cards your dealt. i live out in the country away from big cities so i'd have that as a plus. i keep plenty of melee weapons about my home like baseball bats and machetes. my brother who also lives with my wife (who is a lpn/rn so she could take care of simple medical injuries) and i has several guns and plenty of ammo. i think my biggest problem would come from law enforcement not coming to grips with the situation and wanting to arrest me for shooting zed fred in the head even after he just ate 3 people in front of them. getting supplies would be equally as hard because of where i live. but everyone around me i believe would react to a zed attack well. they may have a moment of shock but i believe it would pass quickly here. partly to them seeing it first hand and partly to me shaking and slapping them yelling at them to snap out of it...
I've been a cop for over 20 years pal. I've always believed in hitting them before they hit you. I know those cops with me will learn very fast. It won't be the individual cops hesitating. It will be the managers and administrators who won't be able to make a decision. For the most part any decision will be out of their hands anyway.

Look at it this way, when the shtf, your either with the living or against them. Anyone who tries to get in your way should be treated like a zed and shot, regardless who they are or what status they had in society.

Agreed. Although, if I run across soem certain individuals, I'll enjoy using the chaos to my advantage...
Most LE isn't dumb, however most people over them play politics and get people killed, the cops in my area are jerks to us because they can be, but the cops a town over are nice as could be, I sat with a few in a coffee chop and we talked guns, they also have a good sense of humor, if I go into law enforcement, it's going to be a matter of making sure the bad guys get caught and those who deserve a second chance get it.
