How many of you, like myself, would prolly die in your sleep as you wouldn't wake up to them chewing on your arm? I mean it... i sleep like a rock.  How would you defend yourself in your sleep? Personally if i was on the trail i would make a hammock and hide higer up and if i was in a bed sleep with my weapons on me at all times.

If you're all alone in the great outdoors do what we did in one of our blogs, place empty tin cans around your perimeter, and just for extra protection put a heavy fishing line with treble fishhooks around the area as well, they will imbed themselves in clothing and skin of both the living and dead slowing their advance and hopefully causing them to make noise.
If you are a heavy sleeper, and don't hear all that racket, well then you're gonna die

Yea... if the zeds are ever gonna get me it's gonna be in my sleep...
I'll give you this advice, learn to power nap. This will save your ass I myself like the few was born with this skill I can sleep for 15 mins and keep going for 5-7 hours as if I got a full nights sleep. Learn this skill if you don't have it, then sleeping would be no problem just find a place to hang for 5 mins and your good. I myself would climb on top of a roof or find a diesel truck and just sleep a bit then run
Well if u got a group of survivours you can have people alternate watch. Thats what I do....
I am actually a very light sleeper generally speaking. There are times though that when I sleep there is little that can wake me up but this is usually due to ingesting sleep medication of some sort which I will likely avoid using during any apocalyptic scenario.

Of interest to me would be the effects of long term sleep deprivation. Who is going to be able to sleep? I have in the past spent 36-42 hours awake and active (I work a 12 hour overnight so I can play with my sleep schedule a little) but believe me, you don't need to take LSD to get a sense of unreality.
/truth

how are you going to sleep with death at your door?
I close my eyes.
You need sleep or you begin to make bad decisions, followed by a an almost drunken stupor.
If you really need a safe place to sleep and there is no where else, climb a tree and tie yourself to the trunk while sitting over a branch. Sure, you may wake up surrounded but at least you will be able to think clearly and possibly come up with an escape,... better than not waking up at all.
Dogs make good alarm systems. Of course in a group you just need to take watch shifts.
If you don't get up to 3 hours REM sleep in a night it can affect you physically and mentally. The brain needs the shut down time.
If you don't let your mind absorb the information it took in in a day it will stop taking in information until you let sleep do it's job
As long as your somewhere thats hard for you to get to you should be fine.

I mean if someone with problem solving skills has a hard time getting to somewhere what chance does something without problem solving skills have?

E.G: Climbing a tree, on top of a building with no roof acess or anything of the like.

Sleeping is easy when you need it, many of you will be saying fear and such will keep you awake all the time but those who don't sleep much already will both be used to functioning in a tired and sleep deprived state and be able to go for longer (Albiet not much longer) Than someone who sleeps more and regularly.

And if you havn't slept in 2-3 days... i sicearly doubt you would be in any state to do much more than pass out.
I myself can't go without sleep for two days, i'll always pass out at the 27 hour mark, and with the fear of death influencing my sleeping patterns i see ti extending to 30-35 hours.
Just beat my record.
