I think that having (small) children in your group is a thing that makes your survival very unsure. This because childeren tend to scream, and stuff like that. I think they don't get the situation that is happening. They may see it as one big game. Also I can't see myself running back to safe a young child. I think that they are slowing me and the group down. As much as I like children, this is about survival. And the fraze is 'survival of the fittest'. Maybe when they are older like above the 15 they can be usefull, but every age under that... Lose them. Does anyone else have an other idea about this, or am I just a cruel bitch?

Agreed. I like kids and all, but I could not provide enough security for others in my group because of a slow, loud, and typically hungry child.
So that would mean I am not a cruel bitch.
Yes, unless I'm a total asshole
No, your not a asshole ; )
We are people who want to survive I guess. Guess there is nothing wrong with that...
It all depends on your base of operations Im currently working out of an old Spanish Mission in S. Texas, tall stone walls, large court yard with a well and already proven to withstand attacks and time. I choose this mission because 1 it had been completly restored and reinforced so it wouldn't take too much effort to make safe. 2. It is has the room for families including children!

Have to had it to the Spanish they new how to build a Church!
I guess it depends of the kid. My grandmother is jew, and she told me that during WWII, she had to hide under a couch with my father (who was a newborn at that time)... She was really scared, and stressed, but he remained silent the whole time, and they weren't caught. But yeah, most of the times having kids in your group can be a huge handicap.
Actually I've had a similar situation a few years back where I was babysitting in this old house, watching TV and someone starts throwing pebbles at the window behind me. I was scared shitless and went and sat on the kids bed and woke him up, the kid was like three and usually cried about the smallest things. He was absolutely dead silent though and if I said something to him he'd reply in a really calm voice. I guess kids can be scared into silence by the fear of others.

It would depend on the child weather I would leave them or not, a baby I could not cater for, I would certainly put them out of their misery though. If it was like my younger brother, or some kid who was not a little prick I would take them in, no one under the age of 5 though. I would really struggle to live with myself knowing some kid knew I left them just because they hadn't the time yet to grow up. But I'm not sure a child below the age of 5 would understand this. Also kids can be handy as their usually pretty fast, fit into small spaces and since in the circumstances they would be really scared most of the time they would notice things I may not.
Task Force Amazon has safe survival camps in our AO that shelter families and elderly people. During patrols on roads we still find survivors with kids and escort them to the safe areas, but they do make alot of noise and are high maintanence the entire time.In our blog "Tunnel Rats" we even found a women who just gave birth to a baby. If you have kids with you the only hope you might have is to find a safe camp that provides security and food for the little ones, having them in the field while trying to be in steath mode doesn't work most of the time. The youngest member of Task Force Amazon is only 13 years old but she can pull her weight with the rest of the girls, and we use her as a runner between groups due to her size and speed, and she's also a martial artist, and is proficent with all sorts of weapons.

Every group needs a "hit girl" ; )

Task Force Amazon
That's one kick ass girl.
And it's always handy to know where I could send people too with children in there group. Or even myself.
For those of you who don't know who "hit girl" is, she's the 11 year old kid who kills alot of adult bad guys in the movie new movie Kick Ass. How can that happen? she's trained by her father in various weapons and even gets shot with a bulletproof vest in the movie, as her father says " to know how it feels" before it happens, and guess what it does lol

Task Force Amazon
Unfortunately ya I would say ditch'em. I wouldn't want to be slowed down as well. But if it where my kid then I may have a different opinion.
I think that would also change my opinion, if it would concern a child of my own. Or the child of my brother.
