Not that I am looking for a text book definition or anything, but there seems to be as many definitions of what a zombie is as there are people on the site. If there is no agreement on what they are or what they can do, then how are we supposed to make any sort of plans to survive or mount an effective defense?

That way it would possible to give yourself time to get your bearings while those fools are tearing down one wall and climbing over another instead of toppling over one and swarming you like bees. This is, of course, if you have the financial resources to construct multiple defenses. If we all had the money I'm sure we'd all be in bomb shelters...
A good strategy would be to add a ledge on top of the barriers so that they couldn't hoist themselves up as easily and actually add water as mentioned before if you live near a body of water you can take a bucket and fill 'er up, and pour water into the area that stretches just before the ledge, using a monitor to see if dries up. Of course, this adds the problem of saturation which can likely be reduced by covering the dirt with a solid water-tight material such as welding steel in place of the hole in front of the front wall. Or if you didn't want to add the struggle to your enemies' attack you could simply dig a deep trench in front of your home, but I would be concerned about the whereabouts of your gas lines and water lines. My affordable defense of choice which will be put in place once I get the financial resources:
2 1/2 ft trench, (can be dropped and raised back up with the material beneath it)
Front Wall: 8- 12 ft high (concrete) will 2 ft ledge on all sides (wood)
Second Wall: Chain link with barbed wire, 6- 10 ft high
2 cameras with enough rechargeable batteries for a year
NOTE:
Keep in mind the amount of stories that your home has, as it can allow you to continue you unfinished construction with a ladder if you have more than one story in your home which can help you buy some more time based on the zombies that you are seeing.

This thread has been an excellent read. I wanted to thank everyone for their input
Cheers!
