I suppose so, but thinking that zeds will be able to talk like normal people -- a little too much for me.

for what I understand, the sounds zombie make is nothing, but since they are walking dead bodies, their insides will decay, which will release gas up the throat making a moaning like sound or a sigh like noise.

most of the time you really can't hear them. but if they do see you they will try to move faster after you well, shuffle fast, making some of that gas escape faster making a quick more louder moan or groan like sound.

as for fresher zombies, meaning recently risen bodies, they will still have very slightly functional lungs, allowing them to make more noise.

How I know that decaying inards make gas?

well, I hear old war stories on where soldier's are getting throat cut in their sleep under the stars and when the sun hits their bodies...gas is released from the decaying insides, making a hissing or faint moaning noise (think the grudge, that kind of sound). which to some those still alive, is creepy.

I depends on what exactly the undead will do and what they may or may not regain -- such as partial control of certain bodily functions.

That makes the most sense if we take the zeds as being the dead that rise -- but if the risen dead regain even partial control things would change.

I learned that in a criminal justice course about two semesters ago, but those war stories sound a lot more interesting than reading chapters from a 450 page book. =D
