They are cheap and designed to take a lot of high impact punishment, and you can use it as a walking stick or yoke if you're travelling.
They are all round better than a baseball bat, ie baseball bats are not designed to take the kind of treatment that a pickaxe handle needs to go through in it's life.
not if its this bat from cold steel
I own one of these as well. I am very fond of it, though I probably would choose to rely on a blunt weapon that had more uses than just as a weapon. The worst thing that anyone in any kind of survival scenario can do to themselves is to assume that their transportation needs will be met with anything other than their own two feet. It's important that the equipment you choose to carry can serve as many different purposes as possible. This is what I have:
I also have the Dead On Tools Annihalator
Both of these are wrecking bars that come with several integrated tools that can be used for a variety of purposes.
That said, for sheer coolness, to look good killing zombies...the Cold Steel War Club is pretty sweet.
I would avoid using a sword of any type. Slashing weapons are not designed to remove heads. They are designed to sever arterys, tendons and take your enemy out of the fight quickly so that you can move on to the next. In order to kill a zed, you need to be able to do greater damage per stroke...energy conservation is key...
something i think allot of people over look is you don't have to cut off the head all the way. you just have to sever the spinal cord. a good solid swing to the back of the head just below the skull will cut the spinal cord as-well as a good chunk of brain stem. while the zombies brain will still technically be alive it will be locked inside its own body. allot of people say the head wills till be able to bite you i don't think that's true, just Hollywood make believe. you cut it off at the brain stem its out cant move anything not even its eyes. it may as well be dead just leave it there to rot. and this approach is better because you can attack from behind where your the safest. shambler's (as the name implys) are slow moving uncoordinated and have a very hard time making sharp turns. you how ever are not. a zombie also only has one move. once it notices you it will head strait for you in as strait a line as possible. so when it comes after you side step get behind it and strike at the back of the head with your bladed weapon of choice and BINGO WAS HIS NAME-O!
Permalink Reply by James McDonald on October 13, 2011 at 11:05pm Ive said it before Im not really a fan of melee or blade weapons because you have to be too close for my comfort to a zed. However, if I have to use one I would much rather have a blunt object over a blade. Blunt object isn't going to get suck in the body. The best option may actually be a spear if you can get a good one. At least you'll have some distance with it.
