I am absolutely sure that at least 10% of the people on this site have heard of the new Discovery channel documentary entitled "The Colony". For those who haven't, I thought it'd be appropriate for this site.

The show is a 10-week human experiment about the apocalypse. 10 volunteers are put together and try to work to rebuild a colony, while they are studied psychologically and documented.

First, the 10 survivors were separated and put into rooms for 30 hours with no sleep, and almost no food or water. This is to simulate the psychological shock of the apocalypse. Then, they are given 15 minutes to scavenge food from an abandoned store, and walk 8 miles down the river to a designated "sanctuary", an abandoned warehouse with various materiel they could use for supplies. After that, they are on their own, with no interaction from the crew of the show other than the cameramen and the occasional interview.

It doesn't have to do with zombies, but for those of you who are interested in planning for the apocalypse, there are some really good tips and ideas that could save our lives when the time comes. When I watch the show, I come to think, "Other than the threat of the zombies, this is pretty accurate." They have to forage for food, design safe water filters, find a source of power, and deal with the constant threat of invaders and thieves.

If I could describe it simply... have you ever seen one of those really crappy MTV shows where they take a bunch of random, completely different people and put them together and watch them get into huge fights over absolutely nothing? It's kind of like that, but they have legit reasons to flip out and be pissed, while they deal with everything they need to survive.

If you are interested in watching the show, you are in luck. It's fairly new and only three episodes have been shot so far. Here is a link to a website that hosts the episodes. Watch them in order, and then prepare for the new episode, August 11th, 10pm on the discovery channel. G'day!

I thought one of the Colonists was a Psych. and there is some Blonde in a dress walking around. I didn't call her a bimbo.
No, I never said you did (sorry if it sounded like it) I'm just saying, if there WERE some person on the team who was really spoiled and high-maintenance, the show would take a turn and a lot of problems would be caused. Still, I like the show how it is, maybe that wouldn't be such a good idea.
I watched the first 2 shows and feel it is rather predictable and very much "oh look at what you have here, build something" off camera. I love how they "find" stuff in the warehouse. And, other than the rocket engineer woman who actually has DOES something - the other 3 are outta here. As for Mike the mechanic, handyman - my kinda guy -good with his hands, thinking all the time, not shy about what he wants and he can freekin' BUILD things. He's the only guy actually has had some good ideas - hooked up the battery bank, built the generator, is wiring in the electric, hooked into the gutter system for water. He stays, the useless tarts go.

Good idea but a bit trite.
I agree with you, even though I bet the colonists don't. Still, the old guy has had some ideas, and so has that other guy who took control in the last episode... I Can't remember his name, but he was one of the 4 new colonists, and he was the one who rose the water tank to the roof. He's my favorite character so far.

As for the 3 chicks... (for anyone who's reading this, please do not take me for a sexist) they do all the little things that would get in the way if the guys had to do them. No offense, ladies, but the women in the colony aren't doing as much physical labor as the guys are, and that's OK. But the women are cooking and cleaning, as one even said in an interview a few episodes ago. If the chicks were gone, the guys would have more work, and not as hard work, but more work nonetheless.
