I was thinking about little things I will miss. Things like ciggarets, and wiskey. Candy bars and TV. once the looting is finished things will get scarce very fast. Where will you look for ciggarets when every liquore store has been plundered, and ciggaret machine torn apart? Where do you look for water when there is no water? For example: It may be scraping the bottom of the barrel, but you might find a butt or two in the ashtray of a car or truck. Or you might find water clean enough to drink in a water heater, or in the back tank of the toilet. Im sure there will be plenty of overlooked resources out there. Food warehouses, storage depots and off road fule locations. Where will you look when you need that twinky?

Buy seeds now and you can probably grow your own tobacco. It doesn't need much tending and can be let go while you evade Zeds. Whiskey, not hard to make with an old time still.

Candy bars and TV. Two nice things that have probably led to the downfall of most people's health, along with tobacco.

Water is everywhere, you've just got to find it and purify it. I've got a well at my home so I've just got to power the electric pump or set up a hand pump.

I don't smoke so I believe I'll get the better end of trades when folks like you come along and I have ready rolled cigars and cigarettes.

Yeah Brotha, would ya like a smoke and a cup of shine? Well its gonna cost ya this much. Paper money. Bwahahahahahahahahaha. Dude, we're set up in an old bank. Look in the barrel over there. We're burning hundreds to heat the still. ;)

Papa, I keep the toilet tank clean as a whistle and sanitized with a little beach. I saw a movie on fall-out survival when I was a kid.  The tank water can be used as can draining your water heater.  There's a cool tool out there called "Bath Buddy" that is basically a big plastic bladder that fills up to the size of your bathtub.  So, if you are staying put, there's a few ideas.  I also invested in portable water purifiers that use a 2 - 5gallon bucket system and isn't any bigger than a foot ball.  Also have the Jeep always loaded with straws that purify as well.

Sweets - in my seed bank are Stevia seeds.  I have stocked up on plain unsweetened cocoa powder and raw honey, I have dried fruits   My pantry has all the ingredients to bake a cake, make muffins, etc.

There are lots of substances that can be smoked like, um... chicory in addition to tobacco.

Hot Showers, why can't you take a hot shower?  I don't have running water where I live, but I take hot showers all the time, either heated from the sun or from a pot on the stove.

Toilet Paper? If you can make cloth diapers, you can make cloth "wipes" too. Wash and reuse. Same goes for sanitary pads, etc.

You really don't have to lack for anything, there may be lots of things available -  esp if 80% of the population is wiped out.  The key is to start preparing now.

I think I would miss toilet paper.  Hot showers. Fresh fruit (too far north).  I mean you can overcome almost all othe these problems if you have a safe and secure base, but if you have to be out on the move...
I'm going to grow pounds and pounds of GDP and use it to trade with!

ok ok ya, its easy to find if you know where to look. and that was the question. where do you look? of course scavanging in the city for food water and amo will be slightly different than old farmhouses in hte country. so depending on where you find yourself,  and of course in which time frame. for example: 3 years later after everything has been looted and burnt as apposed to 3 months later when there are things still left to be had. its interesting how each one of us has a preconcieved idea (me include) when discussing zombies. again for example: stage one (beggining epidemic), stage two (survival), and then stage three (settling or living). I generally asume most people think post zomipocalypse. I certainly wouldn't want to be near any hot zone in the early stages. that's why its important to be able to read the signs and know what stage your in and what to expect.  for example: stage one i would be liquidating assets before its to late, then buying the more expensive resources. ie motor bike, ammunition, boat. By stage two its to late to buy anything, markets have fallen, mass hystaria... looting, killing... zombies. (by this stage I will be hiding out, working a plan to have a few back up safe houses. stage three, if your plan has worked... it should be on to living (as it is), setting in, but being prepared for any contingency. At this stage preparation is all you have left.

3 months or 3 years, my ass will be in the boonies. It is all about being prepared. Having a plan and sticking to it as closely as possible. I work in a small city so I have a plan to bug out home to the country then bug in. In the case of a Zpoc or any type of devastating catastrophe I'll be in to the end because of my job. As soon as the goals of the job become unattainable I bug out by vehicle or foot or by hook or by crook. Being prepared is a life style not a fluke.
Do you know what I did? I eliminated all substances in my life that I won't be able to get during the zPoc. I quit smoking. I do not drink alcohol. I do not eat sugar. I drink very little caffiene. I work out 3 x a week for 2 hrs...hella "cardio". I'm preparing to weigh my "bug out bag" plus weapons and I'm going to begin running with this amount of weight for at least 30 min...
The little things? I have plenty of toilet paper in all of my bug out bags. Hard to fight and run with an adult case of diaperrash.
