I mentioned in another thread that there are so many skills we would need to survive a Zpoc or any kind of massive disaster. How many of us can sew our own clothes or cook our own foor? Okay, we all know you're gonna have to know how to shoot in order to stay alive. You're gonna shoot zombies and you're gonna shoot food. Now how many know how to field dress what they shoot? Can you skin that critter? Can you tan the pelt? Once the ammo on the store shelves is gone you're gonna have to reload your own. Do you know how to make a primer, a lead slug the proper caliber or how to make gun powder? We talk bicycles, cars, ATVs, Motorcycles and even horses but how many of us have used these things? Riding a bicycle is almost a given but some folks never learn to drive a car let alone a motorcycle, ATV or snowmobile. How many of us know how to cue a horse? How many of us know the proper use of spurs? What's the easiest way to get feathers off a bird you shot and managed to dress out without ruining it? How many can plant a garden? How many know about hydroponics? You may not have access to a garden plot and may have to grow food on a rooftop in a home made green house. Do you have these skills? Do you know someone who does? Can you get enough people together who have different skills that can be used to survive?

9. The Cretin...Lost in Space Dr. Smith type always looking out only for himself. Known for locking doors on cohorts and crapping his own pants under pressure. Hides resources and steals food supplies. Hazardous and cannot be trusted. Note: very difficult to lose or kill.
That dude is a dick...kill him first...
Become a Survivalist, set up camp in a deemed secure location, farm crops, find water source, know the wildlife,, know your forest (assuming your in the forest)
And if a Stench were to wander into your territory, treat it like any other prey

keep it keen and keep those eyes wide open boys :P
Don't do that, ATF will call you a cult/terrorist leader and come to kill you.
idk how to really ride a horse but have rode one once. i go hunting and know how to gut and clean animals and fish, fish are easier scaled in a bucket of water or a pond, i know how to plant plants, and i currently have a garden of my own, im growing broccoli, zucchini and tomatoes. the tomatoes have pretty much taken over the garden, im thinking of getting an upside down hanger, they can be put just about anywhere. im not so sure about the guns though, i know where to get ammo, but not make it.
Personally I have sewing down well enough to make due and I can cook something up with anything. May not be the tastiest thing ever but it will keep you alive and if I have spices and some cheeses it probably will be delicious.

I'm no hunter but I know enough to skin and butcher what I kill. I wouldn't worry about ammo myself cause I'm not much of a marksman anyway, Mostly I would stick to melee weapons and use guns only if need be. If I really need long range weaponry I turn to the bow and arrow, its simple and effective. Just takes some practice unless you have depth perception issues and ammo is easy to replenish.

Naturally I can ride a bike and I can handle a car better than your average Joe. Plus my father has been a mechanic most of his life so I know enough about maintenance to keep it running and do any basic repairs. I don't have an ATV anymore but I know how to ride them and snowmobiles. However, a motorcycle is the last thing I would want to drive in a zombie apocalypse, loud and exposed is not my idea of safety. Granted you could get through spaces you couldn't with most cars but that's what a bicycle is for isn't it?
I can ride a horse but I wouldn't make it my primary source of transportation and in my opinion if you have a decently trained horse you shouldn't have to use spurs.

When feathering and dressing poultry it largely depends on the bird because some meat just isn't worth trying to salvage off of it but its easiest to dunk the bird in hot water before you begin feathering. If you can't manage to get yourself some hot water I would recommend just salvaging the breasts of the bird and an easy technique I learn once was just to lay the bird down on its back with its wings spread. Then step on the wings as close to the breast as possible and just pull on the legs and the breasts come right out.
Still I'm not much of a poultry person anyway, I'll stick with the venison, there is plenty of that here in my area.

I've never had much of a green thumb but then the soil in my area isn't that great, if i had some good fertilizers at my disposal though and some way to get the seeds I could start up a garden no problem. Hydroponics is a little out of my league though.

I've done plenty of camping so I can take care of shelter with or without a tent, fire is a bit difficult with all the rain in my area but its also easy to find some accelerant to kick start the flames if the wood is too wet. Sharpening knifes is something I learned as a kid, I can follow a map and read a compass (true north is 20 west of magnetic north in my area)

In hindsight I'm glad I had to go through boy scouts as a kid. I hated it then due to the stupidity of badges, rank and all that but I did learn a lot of useful things while I was miserable.
I can cook, clean, gut, chop, preserve, dry, tan, can, fish, sew, ride a horse like I was born on one (but never had to use spurs), basic medical but probably not field surgery, although I have the tools for it, ride a bike, drive a car including sticks, ATV, Snowmobile, Motorcycle, can grow a garden, harvest seeds, container plants and hydro, identify wild edible plants, live without running water or plumbing, know how to sanitize water and naturally filter, create a man-made leach field, render animal fat, fix a flat, change a tire, basic car mechanicals, make home-made weapons, already have the small solar and dynamo's for light, radio, and energy, can use power and hand tools, good practical architecture skills (design shelters, buildings or convert current to needed use like shipping containers for living), good technologically - computers, basic wiring, plumbing, can breed animals, milk a goat or cow (never tried a horse - yet), can shoot ok but never made my own powder or bullets (another reason you should always have sling-shots and several high-powered air guns in your stash), can gut out and pack game, would eat just about anything in order to survive and can keep a low profile.

And to think my husband once said I was high maintanence - lol
OK, This had better not be my wife messing with me. There can't be 2 of you.
Well, I would image your wife would know how to make powder. I guess I'll have to go to PA and observe. LOL
I know basic first aid, and by that I mean that I know how to clean and "dress" a wound, how to help some one who is choking, that ranges from the Heimlich manoeuvre to an emergencey tracheotomy, I also know mouth-to-mouth, how to make a tourniquet, and how to treat burns.
You have just made the most realistic post on this site. Thank you.

P.S. I actually didn't think of a few of these things. Which means I gotta hit those how-to sites :P
The best way is to be moderately prepared before anything was to occur. Books are only theoretical and do not help entirely. Best to do first aid courses, join scouts or something similar, do community based projects and garden(it will help).
