I mentioned in another thread that there are so many skills we would need to survive a Zpoc or any kind of massive disaster. How many of us can sew our own clothes or cook our own foor? Okay, we all know you're gonna have to know how to shoot in order to stay alive. You're gonna shoot zombies and you're gonna shoot food. Now how many know how to field dress what they shoot? Can you skin that critter? Can you tan the pelt? Once the ammo on the store shelves is gone you're gonna have to reload your own. Do you know how to make a primer, a lead slug the proper caliber or how to make gun powder? We talk bicycles, cars, ATVs, Motorcycles and even horses but how many of us have used these things? Riding a bicycle is almost a given but some folks never learn to drive a car let alone a motorcycle, ATV or snowmobile. How many of us know how to cue a horse? How many of us know the proper use of spurs? What's the easiest way to get feathers off a bird you shot and managed to dress out without ruining it? How many can plant a garden? How many know about hydroponics? You may not have access to a garden plot and may have to grow food on a rooftop in a home made green house. Do you have these skills? Do you know someone who does? Can you get enough people together who have different skills that can be used to survive?

and you can home can just about any food. Also, a good pellet gun can kill small game and birds as large as a turkey.
Man, I am such a hodgepodge of useless stuff. I'm mediocre shot on a rifle range, so in combat against a zombie I might was well through rocks. I do like to bludgeon stuff, but hand to hand combat against a zed decreases survivability. I've never gone hunting or set a snare. I can't light a fire efficiently without a match or something like it. As far as reloading shells, I've never done it. I do know how to skin mammals and fish (thanks to four years of bio science) as well as basic first aid. I'm not even all that athletic. I'm not a tank or an athlete. I do run about six miles a day, so the only zed that would worry me is a fast runner. But most of my skills are skills that don't come into play until much much later.

I'm a mechanically minded person. I like engines of all sorts. I know how to modify petroleum engines to run efficiently off of alcohol and run diesels off of vegetable oil. I can build my own still, water filtration systems and other nice civilized things. I also love to bake, and because I'm just that crazy, I learned how to mill my own flour. Give me wheat and water and I will bake you bread and beer (though the beer will be chunky, sorry).

But as far as actual survival, I'm SOL by myself. But then, I think that was one of the points of this thread.
Honey, most people do NOT run 6 miles a day - lol - right there put you ahead of the herd because you have stamina to travel on foot. I know people who drive their cars down their driveways to get their mail.

If you know how to shoot a rifle, then you'd just need to hone up on target practice. You can learn how to hunt or set a snare. That is easy.

Fire and water will be 2 necessities. So stockpile some flints and strike knives. Something most people don't think about is carrying a tinderbox or even a live coal box/can with them. If you are stationary and hunkered down, you just create a fire pit and tender the coals so they never go out.

If you know your grains, then you'd be able to mill "flour" out of all sorts of plants. All you need are seeds - I bet even fox-tail grass seeds would work (although I have never tried it).

So, you are probably more prepared than what you think, you just need to get into true survival mode. Make a real list of what you can do, what you need to hone up on, what you need to learn.
9 Volt Square Battery and Steel Wool rubbed on some tinder can get a good fire going..
I was just reading that at Possum Living - lol
ex military...I would be more worried about the infection blending with the eco system and making animals and plants a hazard. We would have to locate MRE's or Spam...Food that lasts...but thats a great point!
Do you help the people who dont know how to do anything but watch tv and eat?
I can, sew, cook, grow food (i'm a veggie so no need for skinning or boning (lol) my food), drive (as long as the zpoc happens after finish learning in a few weeks) and i'm incapable of feeling remorse so i could kill with out hesitating. Also i am great at climbing, free running and archery (no guns in the UK).
I could give you an ear piercing from 50m away (by piercing i mean a large chunk of your ear missing )
