Ok I hear a lot of people on these forums talk about using melee weapons. I personally believe that anyone believing their going to go around bashing zombies with clubs, and machetes has been watching far to many zombie movies. The only thing like this I would carry would be a crowbar, and not so I can bash the brains out of the dead. Im going to carry it for use of entering a building, houses, or anything I need. A good crowbar, or a smaller pry bar is worth its weight in gold. It will easily pay for its weight in my pack.

So I want to hear everybodies ideas on what I consider a really bad tactical plan.

Im really starting to worry about all you guys in England, and Australia. They limit what type of firearm you can own, then they limit how much ammunition you can keep? Wow! I mean there are laws in America about owning fully automatic assault rifles and such, although you can apply for permits to do so. The is absolutely nothing against us owning all the parts to assemble a fully automatic assault rifle. I have the lower receiver to mate up to all my firearms to make them full auto, their just not kept with the firearms. To my knowledge there is no law in the United States about how much ammo you can have in your how. I personally don't keep all my ammo in my home. I have some tucked into my storage building. What I did to try to keep is absolutely as safe as possible is build a storage closet for it in my building. I built a closet in my concrete building, and lined it with an extra layer of concrete blocks filled with concrete. I lined the inside, and outside with 5/8" steel plate( this is 1.58 centimeters to those not familiar with are backwards ass measurement system over here. lol). I quiet a bit of ammo in there. Im not going to get into specifics, but I could go to the range once a week for a year and not run out. I figure most of the goverments in the world are planning for a apacolyptic event of some sort. So I should too.

That's what I mean, if you don't need them then why have them. Home defense or self defense is a total none issue here so.

If you need a gun then you can legally have them. I don't see where there is any issue here lol. Maybe it's just a cultural thing, for example I wouldn't move to a country where anyone can own a gun just for shits and giggles.

People can't handle the idea of don't drink/do drugs and drive here, I certainly wouldn't feel happy about any old person just buying a gun just because they feel like it until maturity/general intelligence is a lot higher and drink driving (for example) numbers are virtually none existant.

One thing that I would like to point out is that firearms are only really valid if you have a good strong fortified area that you can hold down.  If you are forced into being nomadic in any way there is no concievible way that you could carry the amount of ammuntion required to make the firearm of much value.  I know, I know but I will just load my own shells and blah blah blah.  Now you are in a position of having to carry all of the needed materials with you too.  On top of that, most people could shoot a gun reasonably well without any training, but maintaining it and making their own supplies for it is another story all together.

I will take a baseball/cricket bat or similar item, reliable and easy to come by.

Well in a zed-apoc there will never be enough bullets to kill all the zeds. Killing zombies isn't...or shouldn't be even on your top 10 things to do to survive.

If you see a zed you should avoid at all costs, weapons realistically should be used to get out of sticky situations/hunting/dealing with other people. In a zed-apoc any weapon that you are proficient with (even if it is a baseball bat) should be fine for most of these. If you can't hit a sheep with a baseball bat then that's just darwinism I guess.

Point taken.
Completely agree, however I would much rather possess a firearm than now. That much I think anyone would agree with. I agree it also comes down to a certain extent on training, I guess I should have made that completely clear.
I very much so agree. One thing that I don't believe alot of people have thought of is where your going to try to setup a base. I want to get into a place that has long enough summers to grow a good crop for the winter, and hard enough winters to keep zeds away. No one knows how zombies will react to freezing tempatures. I mean Im not sure I even believe a zombie could exsist, but if they can. I think they would be like anything else in the winter. It may be a good time of yr to try to kill as many around you as possible. Especially since you can not farm, or grow crops. Just carry a pic ax with you while your hunting, if you see a frozen walker cut its head off.
i agree with the idea of a crowbar useful in all situations. almost. but to me i'm like laz i will avoid zombies at all cost. and my primary would be my colt .45
Its a completely other conversation totally, but why a colt .45 for your primary? When ammo is already going to be hard to find you pic .45ACP. I mean I picked .40 caliber which is hard, but still not as hard as .45.
its a reliable gun i shoot often and dont have many problems with. i'v got ammo stock piled and i kno how to clean as lessons from my grandpa who used it in the Korean war. and to point i'm good with a pistol and its light and easy to carry around

I think we all can agree that a firearm is a better anti-zombie weapon than just about any melee weapon. But it has two drawbacks: ammo is finite (and as the apocalypse drags on, harder and harder to come by) and they're loud - like ridiculously loud, and that's out in the open. Shooting a gun in an enclosed space is a great way to go deaf, and without your hearing you're pretty well screwed.

Now if the point you're trying to make is that picking a fight with a melee weapon is dangerous and stupid, you're right. But not carrying one just because they aren't as good as guns is just as stupid.

i'm not gonna not carry some sort of melee weapon with me thats for sure i mean a nice solid baseball bat or something like that would be great as a last resort back up. but a CB is a great thing to carry it has many useful funtions like a swiss army knife
