I prefer horses. Fast moving, strong...and you don`t have to waste time searching for fuel. I travel with a group...each of us has a horse, and we keep three extra for carrying supplies or rescued survivors, along with a covered wagon we stole from a museum. Plus when the animal dies, you have several weeks worth of meat.

I own and train 7 horses of my own. Horses are great for you and me but those who aren't familiar with them could end up with a broken neck. If I'm in a bug out situa tion I might wait to find or use a horse until I'm well out of aany urban or even suburban area.

True. Its common knowledge that if a horse doesn`t like what your doing, he`ll let you know, lol. And horses spook easily. What breed do you usually work with? I`m especially fond of appaloosa`s and Mustang crosses. Sure-footed, smart, and generally easy to handle for inexperienced riders.
I've got some cast offs. Three Appendix Quarter Horse geldings, an Arab gelding, Thorougbred Mare, Arab/Foxtrotter Mare and a Standardbred Gelding. The Standardbred and Thoroughbred are off track retired a long time ago. One of the 1/4 horses is green and the other isn't under saddle. The one not under saddle is 7 years old. He got used to standing around a farm and the farmer's granddaughter sat on him occasionally. He's good natured and coming along.
Stick with my Avalanche!

i don't have anything suitable right now, but i'll see if i can get myself a gen 1 hummer.

gas will be  problem though, it gets like 8 mpg.

later on as the roads get cleared up I'll switch over to a different car, like a Fiat 500 or a Mini (classic) or possibly a VW camper. all gets good mpg and are pretty decent city cars.

I'll use whatever comes along, but more than likely I'll stick to using mah boots.
I don't care what it is if it keeps me moving then that's what I take my problem with horses besides not knowing how to ride is peoples emotional attachment to them... just my opinion .
I really like my horses but I like living too. If you train them well you can work through a spook. If you have to abandon them to save your hide then you do what you have to do.
Me and mine have two fairly fuel efficient cars that can be easily gutted to make more room for food, weapons, fuel, water, etc.
It goes without saying. I watch that show The Living Dead, and theres a scene where the main charachter steals a horse and accidentally attracts a massive horde cause he didn`t muffle its hooves.Needless to say the poor little thing gets eaten. I have loved horses my whole life, but I would rather it be the horse than me. If it`ll distract them long enough for me to make a quick escape, sadly...munch away, my rotting friends. Or I`ll do the munching, if theirs no other choice of food.
