So your running from a horde of zombies, you come across an abandoned military building. You get in but soon realize the place is not abandoned, you need to get out of there! There's a small table in front of you arranged with almost every type of semi-automatic handgun in the world. You don't have any where to put the guns so you can only take one or two.So which gun do you grab to get out of there?

Me? I'd go for a Socom SOCOM Pistol Mk 23 Mod 0 .45 ACP. Why? Well because it's compact, comes standard with a laser and silencer, has an extended clip, and in my opinion .45 ACP is one of the best rounds it's big,has decent peircing power and does'nt have to much kickback.

Thats a great criteria list with reliability being most important IMO and the SKS is a good choice, I may be kind of ignorant on this but isn't the M16/M4 platform kind of maintenance intensive in order to perform reliably? I know cleaning and maintenance is of the utmost importance to any firearm but there may be long periods of time in the field where it isn't feasible. I know its a lot longer then what you had in mind but maybe a M1A variant could fit the bill, granted its a larger caliber but its known for reliability and relatively good accuracy. Or even an AK47, its accurate enough at distance and if you get it from a reputable company such as Arsenal or Saiga it should be able to run for the long haul.
siaga's are nice because the parts are machined interchangeable. most ak-47's don't like to have parts replaces without a little tinkering. i'm unsure if siaga is just as reliable as a typical ak-47 or not. (seems they should be, since it's basically the same design)
They are made in the same factory as the Russian AK. Many of the parts are interchangeable. The SAIGA's main difference is the placing of the trigger assembly further back in the receiver to make it hard to change it to full auto and make it more ergonomic for the Monte Carlo type hunting stock. I was looking in to buying a couple SAIGAs but I am way more familiar with the ARs. I did a decent amount of research. The price of the SAIGA is hard to beat. You can buy all the tactical furniture for them including High Cap mags at very inexpensive prices. You can get 2 SAIGAs decked out for about the same price as one AR with the same add-ons. You can get the SAIGAs in .223, 308, 30.06, 410,and 12 gauge and all the euro calibers. The AR can be had in .223/5.56, 308 and 410. I have seen a few offered in 7.62 x39MM and 5,45 x39mm but they aren't common. For all intents and purposes the SAIGA is an AK,

that makes sense. i never knew where the Siaga was made. i've looked pretty seriously into getting a siaga-12. they seem to have a cult following, and i've never heard anything bad about them. the idea of having a magazine fed 12 gauge is very appealing. but due to previous experience and training, i would rather have a good mossberg pump IF i was in a group. (i've explained before the purpose of a pump always being loaded if done properly, etc so i won't get into it.) but if untrained in how to work as a group you can't really beat a magazine fed semi-auto 12 gauge if you're a shotgun enthusiest in the apocalypse.
The only negative I've heard on the Saiga 12 is that it needs hotter rounds in order to work the action. Slugs and 00 buck work best otherwise you've got an expensive bolt action.

For the money I was considering buying the 223 and 308 and adding what I wanted over time. I'm just way more familiar with the AR so I've decided to get another. I had one a few years ago and sold it to buy my single action army revolvers. I won't be selling any more guns unless I go in to business.
i owned an m16a3 and was pretty miserable with it. but, i am perfectly content with my yugo m70ab2 (ak-47 variant) alot of people hate the 7.62x39 because of the drop-off in the range. i personally think it's fine since anything past 150 yards is going to end up as spray-and-prey anyway.

once again, i didn't know that about the siaga. that would definately need to be looked into. since the majority of shotgun ammo will NOT be slug or buck... this will be a very serious issue to deal with.
I got the info on the SAIGA from an acquaintance. I didn't shoot it myself.

I'll be loading my own 12 gauge rounds in the new year. Heck I'll be loading just about everything I need in the new year. I'm gonna have to renovate my one out building into a shop.
I agree I think the trade off of AK reliability in leu of range is worth it since in this type of scenario anything over 150 yards or even 100 yards should be avoided anyways. While the M4 platform definitely has better ergonomics and accuracy its just not something I would want to trust my life to in any long term post apocalyptic situation. In regards to the Saiga 12 needing hotter rounds I think it has a 2 way adjustable gas port which helps alleviate the problem but i'm not exactly sure on that.
Yes even with the gas tube adjusted the SAIGA 12 likes em hot.

Plenty of people have relied on the AR15 for life and limb. I have no problem at all doing that. December 1st is the day I plan on picking up my new 1911 and AR. I will post pics.
smith&weson 500, 2 mini uzis, or an AK-47
Large caliber handguns are fine. I just like a Ruger MKI or MKII for Zombie killin' . You can carry lots of ammo and full mags with little weight. No recoil and fast follow up shots. Lets face it, we're just scramblin' the brain pan. If body shots counted I'd use a larger caliber but those hits don't count. The same goes for a rifle. My choice right now is a GSG5 or Ruger 10/22 Lr both with Red Dot scopes. Or my old faithfull Mossberg semi auto 22Lr with a 4x20 scope for longer shots.

Now if they're outside of my barricaded compound I'd use a scoped AR15, Mini14. Or even my 12 Gauge pump or 20 gauge Semi auto. I'd aim about shoulder height and try and get as many as I can with each shot. So far the most I've encountered was a group of 7 in an alley behind a Pharmacy I was leaving from.

The best thing about hunting Z's in a City is that you can smell them way before you see them.
True you want to scramble the brains but occasionally you can only knock them down or if things are hairy and knocking the sucker down gives you time to get the head shot. You're not knocking too much down with a 22.
