What would be your weapon of choice during the outbreak? Why? Pros/cons?

Personally, I would choose an M-1 Garand or M-1 Carbine. Both have stood the test of time, and are sturdy weapons.

With either gun, I could take out a zombie from medium or close range. Both guns have sturdy wooden stocks, so if I needed, I could use them as bludgeons. Plus, ammo for both is plentiful.

As a secondary weapon, I would want a silenced pistol, preferably .22 rimfire. This ammo is everywhere, and the pistol is compact.

Then, for hand-to-hand, I would prefer to have a K-bar or a Machete, with a tempered black blade to reduce the chance of a zombie seeing the glare.
.30 caliber carbine is damn hard to find in most cities. Your best bet for that would be to check mil-surp shops and even then ammo is rare at best. Though the Garand is a fine little shooter, ought-six is gonna be one of the harder rounds to find in large quantities because most with anything in 30.06 are just fudds who carry maybe a twenty round box or two. I'm in love with my Ar-15, an LWRC M6A2, accurate as hell and the ammo (.223 or 5.56) is very common. I've got a non-magnifying red dot (Aimpoint M3) and the ability to add a 3X magnifier in seconds gives me accurate head shots to 300 yards. My current carry pistol is a Glock 17. 9mm is a very common round here in the U.S. and is often found in very large quantities. If I ever feel like spending a wad of cash getting a suppressor and the NFA tax stamp, I could have a silenced pistol.
Make sure you put an adjustable gas plug in your garand since most common 30-06 hunting ammo will have adverse affects on the weapon since those rounds are made to different specs then the rifle was originally made to handle.
Go with a Ruger Mini-14, that's what i'd go with. If your a fan of the M-1 Carbine you'd love this rifle, it's in its spittin image, same bolt design and everything. Lightweight, easy to maneuver with, and the .223 rem ammo is almost everywhere! Right now its furnished with the sleek black weathered stock, id like to upgrade to wooden, something a bit more studier. I'd recommend this over any AR, only if your looking for simplicity tho, for this reason. It's small, easy, and gets the job done.
this sounds extremely familiar...hmmmm
WW2 weapons. Nice. I would go for a Thompson or an MP44. And I have fired a Thompson. My grandpa has one, he let me fire it a few times.
Brother there are hundreds of these posts in this forum. Pick one.
Here are some pics of a couple weapons that I believe would serve you best. The guns are common calibers and the knife is a multi-weapon. Let's break it down. The MasterKey is an M-4 with a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 connected to the picanninny rail. I don't see any rifle or combination weapon being more usefule in short and medium range CQB/situations. The Glock 21 is a .45 ACP semi-automatic pistol. I choose the Glock because it is a K.I.S.S. Weapon. (Keep It Simple Stupid) You point it and squeeze the triger. The safety is integral with the trigger. The gun will not go off if the trigger is not pulled. The .45 ACP may be a "big" round but it has been proven to work well over more then a century of use. The same can be said for the 9mm. It has been proven for more then a century and is a common round. I've used them both and like them both. The knock-down power of the .45 ACP wins out slightly with me. The knife i've included serves many purposes. You have the stabbing and cutting capability of any knife. You've got the fingrer guards that not only protect your fingers but also acts as a brass knuckle striking weapon. At the butt of the knife you've got a blunt force weapon for hammer strikes. Occasionally a hammer strike with a blunt force weapon is enough to cave in a skull and stop a zombie in it's tracks. It has a large, long and heavy blade. This keeps the knife better balanced in your hand and tends to do damage even if you just strike with it. Personally I have an older diver's knife. It has a long blade and a blunt pommel but no finger guards. Most good Bowie knives would also serve the same purpose.Google these things and compare. Whether it's zeds or post Ap raider/thieves these weapons will carry you through.

As always, insightful and thorough! :)
Are you sure you're liberal? :D
"I'm every woman...it's all in meeeee"

LMFAO

I'm just not into stereotyping or becoming a typical "liberal". You should know this by now!!
S&W Model of 1989 (.45) I'd feel more comfortable with a revolver. "Oh no! reloading takes forever!" Not really. Speedloads b*tches. That's just a sidearm....

Primary=Automobiles! 3000 LB bullet FTW.
