Yeah I kinda figured that.
You Really got to think about shotguns I think when it comes to combating the undead. Think about it, I don't see a huge purpose to taking out zombies that are like 50 to 100 yards out. whats the point? If they are that far out maybe walk around them? and if they are in a horde, well you got yourself in a bad situation didn't you? I agree with Prime 100%. I'v gone hunting and I say that the two best all around shotguns to have are the Remington 870 (wich I own) and the Mossberg 500. Load that with 3 inchers and i'd say you should focus on bigger loads like triple B. Thats almost like a .22 bullet in a shell. Sure to get the job done. Or for a bigger spread go for the .2's. These shotguns are sturdy, reliable. Very easy to clean and maintain and really. Not all that heavy. And with no choke then can hold...what? 6 or 8 shells. I don't Remember...Anyway! I think That if your shooting zombies from far away its pointless. And if its too close its very dangerouse. So. The shotgun really works for keeping them a safe way away and still dispatching them. And for increased accuracy I would Carry two or three Handguns with different Caliburs. Like a Glock 17. A Berret 9mm. A .22. Then you have backup..for your backup. Meele Weapons....hmmm...... I like Primes Knive idea. They are great weapons and just imagine all the things it could do as a tool. If not that I would go for a Crowbar. There not alot that you could do wrong with these weapon choices. :P and I also agree with primes K.I.S.S. Idea. Keep it simple...
A statistic from the police: Most combat shooting is done withing ten yards.

As such, a shotgun would be useful, but weight is a huge problem, you can't carry nearly as many shotgun shells as you can rifle or pistol rounds.

Since We're going light, here's how I'll go

Rifle: AK-101(I chose this one because of the full length and 5.56 format)

Pistol: Glock 23

Long blades: Cold Steel Kukri machete, two of them.

Knives: CRKT First Strike, AK-bayonet, CRKT M-16
a sledgeaxe (sledgehammer axe combo) and a colt 45.
i would want these because the sledgaxe can breck damn nere every thing and the colt 45. is the shiznits.
but ammo is limited and the melee is heavy so it may be hard to swing.
pretty much anything with a 7.62 could be manageable because it converts to a 308 winchester, you wouldn't have a problem finding ammo, but obtaining it might be tricky. you might have to trade something your not willing to part with if you can even find people to barter with. that's why i cant stress reloading enough, so long as you have the materials to reload your own you can barter ammo for whatever because there will always be a market for it. im still tweaking my carry, but it will always include a tomahawk, machete, 2 handguns, some homemade RGD-5 grenades, (which i can give a link to instructions if the admins will allow it. im new here im not sure on the rules about sharing that information.) and my rifle, most likely the m4 or the more ammo friendly storm. i would have my 1965 fred bear edition recurve with me also but it would probably be stored in the ruck sack until i needed it. i have a pretty nifty trick on making broadheads out of 30-30 shells which i have a stock of.
Not exactly. The shell lengths are different.

.308 winchester = 7.62x51

AK-47, SKS = 7.62x 39
Dragunov, Mosin-Nagant = 7.62x 54
AK-74 = 5.45x 39

re-loading is fine, so long as you have a press, primers, brass , powder, scales and projectiles with you. While later in the event, you may find them left behind in gun stores, it's a lot of stuff to lug around.I think powder would be the hardest to find, people would take it thinking they could blow things up with it.
Finding the right powder for what your re-loading could be a problem too.
Last year when this same question came p I went to Google and typed in "Homemade Guns ands Homemade Ammo". What did I find?

Amazon.com Ronald R. Brown Homemade Guns ansd Homemadse Ammo. $14.95

That book now sits in front of me along with "The Homeowner's Guide to Renewable Energy". Prepare. Plan.

HK makes great weapons. I carried an MP5 for 4 years on CRT. One thing about them though, you won't be reloading the ammo cuz HKs tend to ding the brass when ejecting.
is that semi auto? and if not, where the f do you live where u can get that kind of firepower?
Full Auto and semi. CRT = Crisis Response Team. I've been a cop for 20 years. There are some of us graybeards on this site..
