I'm more concerned with protecting my limbs and neck, than torso. That appears to be where most would occur. Besides, I'll be wearing my chest rig and backpack. For the limbs, I'd go with kelvar or some kind of puncture resistant arm sleeves, and blue jeans along with some kind of armor protection for the legs.
Confidence is a factor when it comes to weaponry. I have no experience with a chainsaw, so I probably would leave one alone. I am confident about my rifle and handgun. I also think the katana is reliable (although I hope to purchase a high-end one when the funds become available).
My biggest problem is confidence. I don't like to make snap decisions. I like prefer to have all the answers before doing something. So I might be overwhelmed and paralyzed by a fast pace situation.

but since i cant have that, i will be depending on my own skills of what i know and psychology that i have learned to cope with this, preperation of physical is only half. guarantee ONE of YOU can and will go crazy for the first five minutes of realization with a 50/50 chance you will pull through, 12% will be happy enough to get careless and your odds will drop substantially until you have a near death experience that brings you back to reality that you are mortal, and the rest will have the world pause around them as they let it all sink in that this is the moment that it all happens, with that crucial amount of time anything could happen until your focus comes back in. the ones who will actually have all of this mentally prepared but will die because they will think everyone around them has done the same when they have already been in the other categories...and then there is the emo that dies by panicky made in china Katana usage...i will laugh when that happens
oh and i would love a ray gun...dieselpunk look.....
Permalink Reply by DR Elder on June 28, 2012 at 11:35am Our armor is made from auto gasket fabric and two layers of steel wire screen with a fiberglass shell, weighs a few of pounds, is cool, slightly flexible, and can hold up to disinfectant. It is our understanding that zombies don't shoot or stab, and no human bite is going through this stuff. I want to survive a first rush blitz attack from the side or rear by an unarmed human enemy, not fight the war of the roses. My theory of zombie fighting is to avoid it whenever possible, get away from the infected as quickly as I can, and don't expose myself to their body fluids.
Meh...
Not sure about this one...
Yes, I do acknowledge that there's such a thing as psychological advantage but the problem here is what if reality clashes with the ideal...
What I mean is, say for example, the chainsaw... In order to gain psychological boost you have to think of the chainsaw as an ideal weapon. This would mean putting less attention on its weaknesses because weaknesses will cause you to lose your confidence. So there you have it in your head. The perfect chainsaw! It starts easily and you can swing it around with ease and it cuts the undead like a knife cuts butter... However, reality has it that chainsaws are heavy, not fuel-efficient, doesn't guarantee a start on the first pull, gets stuck, and also they're noisy. Of course, reality will crush the ideal and the psychological advantage will get reversed since, chances are, you'll lose your courage and confidence and you'll get stuck with a chainsaw that won't even start because of one reason or the other in the middle of a clash with the undead...
Just to straighten things up, I'm not pessimistic... I just prefer to be prepared for the worst...

the best armor is not to get shot/attacked in the first place! :)
be really cautious, analyze every area from all angles, and look for hte small things that might indicate an ambush or raiders broke in while you were out.
wearing plate armor & using a chainsaw doesn't do much to scare zombies, and it really doesn't help at all intimidating hostiles if they can put you down with a .45 bullet to the head.
