what do you think of the .50 cal sniper rifle as a zed killing weapon?

Every time it comes up I attempt to tell the truth as I see it and that truth is this. As a straight up zombie killing weapon, the only way I would pick this thing up is to beat a zed's brains in with it. It's complete overkill if such a thing can be said about the undead. Drop the military rifles and pick yourself up a good old 30-30 Lever or bolt action rifle. Stay on the move and on the bounce. Stay alert and avoid engaging the enemy until you can aquire a safe position from which you have the capability and resources for a counter-offensive.

The problem with weapons of this nature as they relate to Zack is that you are applying a hammer when a plain old fly swatter will do. Firearms like this are incredibly heavy, bulky and difficult to transport which is why they are transported in two man teams. Also consider that the report from such a weapon is a sound that can be heard for miles alerting Zack to your position.

In truth, there are very few firearms that will not alert every zombie in a 2 mile radius to your position but this one will call them in from 5 miles. It is better to stick to smaller arms that will do the same job with less bang. There will be so many idiots out there that go for such weaponry in every gun shop and Walmart from here to Hocksnart that the likelihood of you resupplying yourself with the exceptionally heavy ammunition is slim to none and you will be stuck carrying around a rifle that has more use as a bludgeon than as a firearm.

I challenge any who read this to think about how useless fully automatic weapons and .50 Cal Sniper rifles really are in the face of an enemy that has no desire to duck for cover or run and hide when they hear the preternatural “BOOM” that such a rifle creates.

It is like small unit tactics will need to be completely rewritten since the concepts behind the use of such training is that you are dealing with an aggressor that is armed and will fear you. Flash Bangs are just loud noise and light to a group of enemies that could care less about your attempts to limit their ability to see and fight.

Your one and only option is to run and hide until such time as you can create a redoubt from which you can begin to retake territory. Contract and expand, contract and expand. Eventually, given planning and resources, you may carve out a piece of real estate for yourself from which you can watch your enemies fester and rot to pieces while you maintain a well entrenched self sustaining community and wait the thing out.

Forget about these huge weapons and macho concepts. The ones that survive will be the ones that understand what’s at stake. Survival here is not contingent upon the number of bullets you possess and the fearsome number of high-tech weapons you have. It will be your ability to recognize that to fight before you have a secure position from which to expand is suicide no matter how big a piece of lead you are sending towards Zack.

If you happen to have one in your redoubt, keep it for raiders who will want to steal your supplies and make off with your wives and girlfriends. They are the ones that will know to respect a .50 cal piece of lead, especially when it is headed in their direction…
Amen, Bruin. Loud, heavy as hell, unwieldy, and damn near impossible to find ammunition.
I wouldn't say ammo is "hard" to find, it just isn't cheap. I've got a Barrett M82, but I sure as Hell wouldn't use it against Zeds. If they're so far that using a .50 makes sense, there's no point in even shooting it.
You're right, Wildman.  I should've said "Damn near impossible to find ammunition is a socialist state like California"
This is same as using a gatling gun against the undead.

It is near impossible to find one in first place, let alone feed the ammunition it requires. it's loud and when motor runs out, your fucked.

same with .50 cal sniper rifle (take away the motor on the electric gatling gun for obvious reasons) it is loud, extremely heavy and where are you going to find 12.7mm rounds anyway, do you think that the military hasn't already taken it to fight the undead.

so yeah, i agree
Not to metion how uneffective they both are.
It will kill them but why kill a zed from a distance. My issue is at the distance it can be used you are safe and likely hidden. So all I ask is why? If I'm hidden than I'm hidden for a reason. Zeds are not a long distance problem so why kill them from a distance. A medium distance semi-auto carbine is plenty good enough.
maybe for fun or recreation? XD
Nah
Predator...It hurts me that I went into that entire diatribe only to see that you more or less summed up what I had to say in much less space...lol
I like your diatribe.
Come to think of it, I would have one of these rifles on hand. not to pick the zeds off for real means, that's for the .30-06 or something smaller, but If I just want to make a bloody mess of things, I would pull this beast on them.

It might be a waste of ammo, but watching zombies go pop with the might of a .50 cal and watching others fold from the bullet's back pressure (or whatever its called), is just entertaining.
