What happens to a person, who has become so accustomed to killing zombies, when the last one is killed? When you've been encouraged to do something like that for so long, you can't really just flip the switch; nightmarish memories will surely linger and rust the mind. I think that it would take a while for the paranoia and fear to dissipate because I know that it will not leave with the last of the walking dead. Besides a couple million damaged psyches and the deterioration of civility, what other aftershocks would there be due to the zombie apocalypse?

Man, some skoal sounds good right about now lol excuse me, I must partake in the freedom I still have the privilege to enjoy lol
I won't say that we CAN'T completely get rid of Zack, but I'll make the point where it'll be very very difficult.
People can find some wonderful places to hide, and some doors won't ever be opened for years upon years, possibly containing an undetermined amount of our favorite walking corpses.
That being said, another outbreak could happen at any given point in time until extremely thorough measures are taken to assure that we are indeed Zombie-free. Crawling around ventilation shafts, checking sewage systems, cave systems, dense forests, and should I forget every house down the street?
If a Z freezes with a lake in the winter, he'll probably be hungry when he wakes up.

In the end of World War Z, they still haven't rid the world of the threat.
Anyone who's took the time to read it saw how much the world changed then too.

ANYWHO.
A government will, generally, attempt at the safety of it's own officials over it's actual people. Assume that any form of government survives, of course they'll attempt reestablish what once was. It'll be a shame when they learn that people have began to fend for themselves.
Instead of fighting each other, the people would probably work under a common interest of fighting whatever powers-to-be attempting to take over a much more simple lifestyle.
I read about "...no shortage of asshole leader types and twice that many drone's willing to obey what they say" and find an undeniable truth in that, but when the day comes, who's really going to be willing to follow a suit over a survivor?

So instead of running some silly presidential campaign, why not make an agreement among your peers and say, "He hasn't got us killed so far, that's why he's still chief."
Don't expect the remains of government to attempt to re-establish what was. Expect them to establish what will keep them in power. The actual ability and resolve of the "Individuals" who have banded together will determine what happens in establishing or re-establishing government. If the Survivors have to war with the remains of the government in order to not be subjugated then so be it. Of course there will be those sheep who will support any government because they want to be cared for and not have to be responsible for themselves.
I can already tell you that it won't be a pretty fight either, speaking that not many people are really qualified to drive tanks.
Speaking for myself, I'd rather fight for my battle buddy and stick it out with him than even bother with all that government nonsense. It's not worth the bother, and only spells for a repetition of what we have today.
I have a feeling that most of those sheep will be the Zed we face, but that's just a hunch.
I agree, man; Government does not restore, it only regulates.
Gotta be able to move the fuel to the tanks and I know quite a few "regular" folks who can drive an M-i Abrahms. I was trained a long time ago on the Bradley. There are more veterans then there are current military. Who is to say the "military" will hold any loyalty to "government" anyway?
That's an often over-looked point man, military and government are not always interchangeable.
lmao I was thinkin of Public Enemy's "Fight the Power" the whole time I was readin that
I suppose that it wouldn't be unlike the vets that come back from the wars. Just roll with the punches and try to come back to a reality that we once knew, even though that kind of seems impossible.
