im thinking there would be some shotguns that are far superior than others like an semi atuo shotgun would be better than pump action im thinking oh something like a sagia 12 would be good becase its based off the ak-47 but with shot shells or something esay to clean, reload, and doesnt jam often

well you could always put slugs in it if your worried about range but then agin we cant choose our amo in a time like that
I have one word...availability.
Where is anyone gonna find any heavy artillery, and if you do, what about ammo? Its great to play video games where all the weapons you dream of are on hand, but in reality, where we sit right now, if it popped off what would be a really good, realistic option? Plus a 12 gauge you can stagger the rounds, buck shot and slugs....one to push back, one to take off limbs!
Mossberg
I say, if you have the money, then go ahead and buy all that, but for the majority of us, use what you have and place your money towards other supplies and a mode of transport that is cheap to maintain and capable of taking hits from potential road kill.
I would go with a standard Remington 870. Semi autos are round finicky meaning you can only use high base rounds. A standard pump will shoot anything you can load plus you have a better chance of it not jamming due to being manual and not gas operated like semi autos. There is a very good reason why Law Enforcement around the world carry the 870; it's cheap and goes bang every time.
New England Firearms makes a very good knockoff of the 870. It's pretty much the same damn gun, but brand new will run you about $225.

@first post: Saiga is good as long as you can get three inch shells. It does not like to shoot 2 3/4 ones. If anyone asks, I know because I had one and spent much time cursing as a result.
Not bad but if a real 870 is only 315.00 I would go with the original. Also the 870 can be modified to your mission. My 870 has a surefire forgrip, spec ops stock, scattergun tritium sites and a sidesaddle mount. It's excellent for patrol and not bad at zombie slaying.
Depends on the 870 you buy. A normal one for 315 maybe, but they get expensive fast. I like the cheaper one, mainly because I don't have to feel bad about taking a hacksaw to the barrel. I wouldn't say it's good for zombie killing, but if you encounter human resistance, it'll clear a room pretty damn quick.
Go with what you can afford. NEF makes some very serviceable shotguns. ARMSCOR and Rock Island Armory also make nice guns at low end prices. You can have a Mossberg 500 Persuader for under $300 if you shop around. Plenty of these shotguns used at local gun shops and pawn shops too. I've had a Mossy 500 Persuader for 10 years and love it.
I love those deals.
What about the use of a Serbu Super Story?

I got a chance to shoot the Mossburg version before and loved the little guy to death. I know I wouldn't use it was my primary weapon of choice. Just like what other people said, a shot gun is a very versatile weapon that is almost a necessity in the zombie world. This would be a good compromise. Not full size and as accurate as a long barrel, but still does a load of damage.
I had to google Serbo Super. Little shotguns are nice and it would make a great back up. If it's all you've got then go for it. If you've got a shotgun with a full stock, 18 to 20 inch barrel and full length Mag tube I say your better off.
