Although you are correct in that they are still alive the movie has always been part of the zombie genre. Highly infectious, biting/attacking, mindless, once reasonable humans going on a rampage. Sound familiar?
Saw the movie not long ago. I would not call that a good zombie movie. Undead makes no sense to me.
Ok An alien virus or something turns people in mindless undead then aliens come fix the problem and everyone not killed as a zombie come back to life. Um.....aliens have the power to raise the dead? More likely the "Undead" are mutated and not really what we would call zombies. I only bring this up cause you said 28 days later were not zombies because they were infected people. Sort of splitting hairs here.
few days ago my friends brought me some Zombie's classic movies like Zombie 2 and The Day of The Dead....
freaking classic stuff like raising gruesome undead from the grave very slowly, creepy moments while Z's stalked your guessroom, or Z's trying to grab naked woman underwater while she's scuba-diving and some horrible wood piece scene - that sticking your eye whole for bloody good ..... stuff like that !
And as we watching it together and it's like a marathon zombie movie hours
and everybody screaming and laughing (but several of them are definitely dying scared !)
in my opinion i would have to say night of the living dead you watch that when your on one and believe me they did a damn good jiob at it or either that or day of the dead.....,.,...i fucken love zombies!!!!!!!! =)
My fav is a tough one. The original morden zombie movie was Night of the living dead. I cut my zombie teeth on that one years ago. I like 28 days later for a slightly more realistic feel. True it is not a zombie movie persay but it is very close. Flight of the living dead had alot of good things about it though there were a few things I thought could have used work like the "Tiger Woods" clone. Well know black golfer on a plane and they let him carry his putter with him. Yeah ok.
At this time I would have to say my over all fav is Diary of the dead followed by Land of the dead. Night is right up there with them so I a guess I am saying Romero is God and I love his work.
Now it is easier to list what makes a Zombie movie bad for me.
Make the zombies move realistically: In the remake of Day of the dead they had the zombies crawling on the ceiling. Really? Ceiling? Oh at some ran on all fours like a spider. Honestly I felt insulted after watching it.
Bad acting, directing: There is a no budget movie called Zombiez that was the worst film I ever saw. It starts out in construction site in the middle of a desert. Half way through the female star is running through the woods. Woods? In the desert? She is being chased by the zombies who are talking to her the whole time. She finds a road and a car is coming, does not see her until the last second and crashes in to a phoen pole killing the driver. I say crashes but the car was doing less then 3 mph and there was not a scratch on the car yet the drivers guts (which looked alot like chicken liver) is forced through her shirt...with no whole in the shirt. The start pulls her out of the car whil both actors make sure the pile of liver is not spilled off.
In another scene a man is shot in the knee. No blood, not hole in the pants. Nothing.
Don't over explain the origins of the zombies: I can't remember the name of the movie now but there was one I saw that the whole movie was nothing ore then them trying to explain how the zombies work, how they move, why they crave brains, why they don't rot as fast as a normal body, ect. There was little real acting and only one zombie attack that was not target shooting match between two "hillbilly" hunters with high powered rifles on top of the roof of the store they were hiding in. .
For this week I have to say : Apocalypse of The Dead and Day of The dead (remake) ....
Apocalypse has a good start and various story in the beginning. One of the most interesting (and silly) scene was several zombies were sleeping under the midday sun (LoL) !
Day of the dead (remake) has another good story in it... with a very sexy Mena Suvari as a soldier with a good acts away from her usual kind of movie types. Great movies...
