I would like to know the rules that everyone lives by or believes for surviving the outbreaks and apocalypse. Is there an author that has perfectly captured what you belive to be the most likely scenario for the end of the world by zombies?

What kind of zombies do you believe in? how do you believe that they work (as in biologicaly)? do you believe that only destroying the brain kills zombies and all other organs don't work or do you believe them to be the infected kind? does it spread to other species? can there be immune people?

I ask because with so many different guides out there, i want to see if Max Brooks is still the number one source or if the masses have finally opened their eyes.

I have to admit that brooks does have some reasonable arguments and useful advice for holding your own and stockpiling necessities but when it comes to the biology of zombies and the virus i wouldnt trust my life on it. his ideals dont make any sense and even a child could see something is wrong. the brain cant be the only way to kill a zombie and there is no way a zombie can continue to survive with without somehow turning food into energy for such an extended lifespan let alone shutting down all of it's organs and life functions except for the brain.

one book i found really interesting in terms of biology is "so now you're a zombie: a handbook for the newly undead". sure, the book is for those who have recently turned into an undead corpse, and is really comedic, but once you get down to it, the zombies in this book make more sense than the zombies in "the zombie survival guide" plus, all of the tactics it gives for catching your next meal can be used to learn how to avoid finding yourself in such situations.

i want to know what everyone believes in so be as detailed as you can. I (and i'm sure others) would appreciate being the most prepared we can be in every situation that can possibly arise. i'm not asking for tactics or weapon and equipment loadouts but the biology of zombies and how it works.

That's the nice thing about fiction, the writer can make their own rules, they don't have to be based on fact. No one complains that Star Wars is not based on reality nor do they complain that Vampires are not physically possible.

My personal favorites are classic Romero zombies, shamblers. You can outrun a few but you can't stay still or they surround you.In my own writings I often use how they came into existence as as secondary foe that survivors have to combat and fill out the story.

The only true zombies I beleive in are those that sit in front of a TV set and let IT consume THEIR brains.

i like that last line of yours.
do you have any work in your profile that i could read?
I agree

in my opinion zombies would be like us you know able to run for a certain amount of time... walk at a normal pace.....

just they would lose certain abilities like shooting guns or wielding any sort of weapon....

they could climb ladders walk up stares..... but they wouldnt be able to use an elovator.... haha..... of course they would die the way we die...

mabye by blood loss or by decapitation....

see, most others i talk about would immediately respond with their belief in the Brooks zombies. and they would always have such a strong opinion on the subject that they would make me feel like the weirdo for bringing up the idea that different zombies exist. i'm glad to know there are others that also believe in the possibility that zombies act the way i think they will

i believe in the zed that tries to eat you, whether a running zed, rage zed, left 4 dead zed, Romero zed, or even an actual zombie based zed *voodoo* if it tries to eat/consume/shrink my head, then I'm gonna kill it........

and as for the brain in virus rules,*i cant stand Max Brooks descriptions so I'm pertaining to the virus 'theory' in the Romero movies and Lost Zombies* said this once before *don't remember where* but as pertaining to the virus workings, i think it would be more like.....

the virus will take the entire brain to assume itself as the new controller over the dead body but use only the parts that make it move and strong while the rest of its needs will be from nutrients from eating fresh parts since it cannot make its own nutrients anymore, so after the zombie consumes what he has, the virus decomposes it and treats it to replace specific dead tissue and skin areas and the longer it goes without food, the more the zombie rots...

everyone else has there ideas on different zeds so i'm going to refer to them on that

interesting... but how long do you think that a newly resurrected corpse would last without food? as in, if it was just roaming the streets with nothing to hunt.
then it will rot in the typical dead dude attitude *WOOHOO RHYME TIME!!!!* by going through the basic five stages of decomposition. it might skip the bloating part though since the virus may take that as a last ditch effort to postpone self elimination as long as possible.......
that sounds awesome. i've never thought of the bloating stage!
Basic biology defies Brooks' zombies, without circulation, the blood cannot deliver glucose for the mitochondria of the living organism's cells to break down and create ATP with, which is the energy molecule for the muscular system, without it the muscles simply cannot contract. Something like the Marburg Virus (What the 28 Days Later series was based of) makes the most sense, which is a blood borne disease, in the same family as Ebola. I think a virus or a bacteria that causes swelling or slight decay of the brain makes the most sense, potentially swelling or eating away at a specific portion of the brain that controls social behaviors or maybe that key line that prevents us from being raging, murdering psychos running on pure animal instinct. But basically, the zombie is still technically just an infected human. Recovery rate is 0%. New disease equals no immunity, few to none are going to be immune, especially when you consider that  in the late 80s there was a Soviet doctor who created a superbug version of the Marburg virus, essentially, it's going to be our fault it exists.
