Ok so this is a series of questions I ask people who think they are ready for
The zombie crisis. When someone comments on what they use I want other people
To comment on their decision and state why what they picked was good or bad.

1.you can have one long range weapon to carry with you.what would it be and why?
2.you can have one short range weapon(shotguns fall in this category.) what would it be and why?
3.you can have one melee weapon what and why?
4.you can choose any vehicle only one though what and why.
5.you can choose any "hideout"/"safehouse" what and where would it be and why?

Ok that's the test have fun! Let me know what you think if you like or dislike this topic.

I also never go anywhere without my parang

1.you can have one long range weapon to carry with you.what would it be and why?  Keltec SU-16.  5.5 pounds, chambered in 5.56, it folds in half to fit in a pack if I need to, takes AR mags.

2.you can have one short range weapon(shotguns fall in this category.) what would it be and why?  Colt 1911.  There are lighter pistols that hold more rounds but I've shot 1911's all my life.  I'm used to the battery of arms.

3.you can have one melee weapon what and why?  Kabar knife.  I hope to never have to use a melee weapon in combat especially a walking biohazard.  The Kabar is more of a utility tool: cutting tasks, splitting wood, etc.

4.you can choose any vehicle only one though what and why.  ATV.  Or if I could, a good horse.  Something fuel efficient and manueverable in tight spaces.  I imagine the roads will have many obstacles in a z-poc.  Also something that I can shoot a firearm from...which you can't from a bicycle (shame on you Max Brooks).

5.you can choose any "hideout"/"safehouse" what and where would it be and why?  My home.  It's on an island which would help keep zombies away except for a few bridges which are chokepoints.  All my supplies are here, it has relatively defensible space, it's close to a natural water source for drinking and fish for food.

For my long range weapon I would choose a 5.56 AK - reliable, durable, low-maintenance, ammo compatibility, accurate and powerful enough to get the job done.
My short range weapon is my Taurus Millennium PT145 - reliable, powerful, durable, common caliber, concealable.
My melee weapon would be my favorite crowbar - effective and multi-use.
My vehicle would be my and my girlfriend's Cherokee once the new tranny is in - I know it well and am about done halfway rebuilding it, 4x4 capability, durable, powerful, common parts, four seats plus cargo room, decent gas mileage, easy enough to work on in most situations.
My hideout so far would be the junior high school near my house - it can easily be made secure, has multiple fallback points and ways to get out without bottle-necking, has a lot of supplies, can park our vehicle behind doors but still have a quick way to get it out, could be sustainable given certain supplies, and provides a good vantage point.
