What would be the best place (as in fortified building) to holdout in during a Z-Apocalypse

Title says it all.

I like the idea of office buildings. Many floors and doors. HVAC systems to crawl arround in. Elevator shafts to use as booby traps. Vending machines on every floor and, look at all the stuff to drop off roof tops and out of windows to save my ammo for when I need it the most.
I think the question that never gets asked is how did it get this bad in the first place. If we're all as prepared as you assume we should be, then this shouldn't have been allowed to happen.

I won't likely ever be prepared for a case of appendicitis or a child birth (both are considered minor procedures and I might be able to figure it out), but how many freak accidents can we be ready for and overcome? An invasive surgery of any kind isn't something that most groups are going to be prepared for or even able to prepare for. Many births are done by C-section these days, what then? With your questions I ask you in return where the full surgery suite is and the licensed and stocked medical staff?

Most scenarios grant that more than 90% of people will die. Maybe today isn't your day. Some things you are able to prepare for, but I have no idea how I'm going to fit said medical suite under my stairs, or else I would totally try.
You are absolutely right. People will die. An abcessed tooth could kill you. Any infection can kill you. A trip to a living doctor could be hours through infested zones. I have a family friend who is an MD. He's 2 hours away by car with clear highways. It would take a couple days by horse and contending with zeds. One thing about general practitioners is there are many around. A few of them will surely survive. I know quite a few doctors who are survivalist types. Pharmacists and registered nurses(sister in law) will be invaluable. EMTs, Paramedics and people with Military Medic training will be the new doctors in a disaster of anykind. General CPR and first aid will have to suffice with minor issues. Cleaning and dressing wounds and such will be an art-form. One that everyone will need to master.
Not everyone will read those books. Not everyone has the ability to comprehend what it takes to make it. Look at today's society. The closest many people get to a firearm is a video game. Never mind setting a broken bone or stitching themselves up. We live in the days of pop-a-pill and things will be okay. Heaven forbid people don't have their mood altering meds. They might have to deal with some stress.
Better off leaving no trace. Most will be zeds.
the statue of liberty...let me finish...yes it would be a pain to get through New York city to get there but think about what you can do once you clear it out?.....all you need to do is make yourself bait by standing on the boat a few feet away from there reach as any zed trying to reach you would fall into the water...then just climb onto land and clean the rest
Better yet Alcatraz Prison, same basic idea just with the idea benifit of a prebuilt fortress.
Why do you think they call it "The Rock"? Theres nothing on it but rock. No plants, no water,...well lots of salt water. I don't think I'd eat the fish outta the bay either but, I already admitted I'd eat dog food in another thread?...And located dead center bay area. (Dead Center, get it?) I'll stick to my high rise.
Where there are living humans there are or will be dead humans. Rural, off grid and hard to get to.

Rural- less humans already.

Off Grid- you don't depend on big brother or anyone else

Hard to get to- Zeds will take the path of least resistance. They will follow roads and highways and streets. Some will go to the woods but for the most part they will go with the flow of the land. They aren't good at climbing and negotiating obstacles.
Any city school. It's completely reinforced, has locks on every door, has it's own kitchen, food supplies, boiler room, entertainment, backup generator, various tools in the wood/metal shops, and often as many weapons as you will ever need. (Trust me, go through enough lockers and you'll have your own armory and pharmacy)
The elementary school I went to was closed up a couple years ago. Last I knew all the pipes blew the first winter, but the weeds are growing up nicely. Lots of room in there, but I haven't really been through it. Maybe that will be my zombie christening :) My only concern would be blocking off the doorways (built to accommodate lots of traffic) and the stairwells (at least two of them) after all the desks were probably sold to the Christian school at roughly $0.01/unit...
