Come on...is it that difficult?
If you have intelligence, that's one thing. But just because you have intelligence doesn't mean they do...there's no way you could control a zombie army, except maybe making loud noises to get them to follow you, but then it puts you in the front, taking fire from the survivalist humans.
A half-turned Zombie is a frightening prospect. Personally I would try to protect my family, by scavanging for food and supplies whilst being immune to attacks from the mindless variety.
I think "zombie", in this case, means any reanimated corpse, not just a walking, but mindless, shell.
And, technically, a zombie is anyone/thing that died but was revived, usually by a virus, without normal "living" functions (digestion, heartbeats, pain, mortality [headshots exempt], etc.). As long as you meet those conditions, you are, indeed, a zombie (in rare occasions, however, the virus skips its "death phase" or has a death phase so quick that it is not noticeable). That is my only definition of a "zombie". Intelligence is not a factor.
