I'm of the belief that for a Zombie movie to be truly great it has to somehow add to the genre. For instance: Night of the Living Dead first introduced the idea that you must destroy the brain/head to kill a Zombie. What would you most like to see in a new Zombie movie?

By "stand out" do you mean "remain alive" LMAO

I've never thought of using "The Postman" (which is a kickass movie) as a reference to what society would be like during an oubreak...kinda seems obvious now that you mention it lol.
Alive is one thing but you always have the big talker who hides when the shit hits the fan and comes out at the end to take credit for things he never did.
Voodoo ritual
Haitian Zombies
Psychedelic drugs
Classic Noir
Late 60's setting
Social commentary on racism
That kinda sounds like The Serpent and the Rainbow...kinda
I was thinking of a Grindhouse, exploitation homage.
well now that I've never seen, sounds cool...maybe even bring back some blaxpoitation lol it'll fill in the "racism" part
I'd like to see a more in-depth explanation on how the zombie comes up. If it's a viral outbreak of zombism, I'd like to know how it affected the human body to do so. That's always fascinated me.
I've rarely seen the specifics shown in zombie movies. Usually, directors just head straight into the action/drama without an (explicit) explanation of how the virus actually moves from host to host. Sometimes, I feel as if they just want us to associate this new plague with any other common virus, only having to change the minor details of how it spreads (transfusion of fluids, radio waves, chemical agents). When they do decide to include an explanation, it's often coupled with the oblivious "Zombie, hmmm what's that? I've never heard of that before..." kind of approach. For the sake of pacing, I guess they can always just include the details on the DVD as a documentary-type featurette. XD
World War Z is a great source for scene ideas very real and very believable even if it doesn't follow the LZ time-line

it'd be a great base for situation ideas
I would like to see some sort of organized resistance from humans like a , sort of like romero did in the original day of the dead and Land of the dead only without the zombies learning how to be human again. It would be cool to see a movie were instead of everyone running around like idiots when the dead rise having a group of people like those of us on this website who are truly prepared for an outbreak and have their stuff together
mutated zombies like in left 4 dead
The actual colapse of the world from patient Zero to the point where we always oick up the story.
