Is it generally accepted that zombies moan? If the heart has stopped, so has breathing, so how is that possible. Also if there is no oxygen being passed through the body, or air for that matter, how does a Zed have the ability to have a heightened sense of smell? We all know that they are a 'walking' contradiction, but doesn't this make it more so?

For the moaning bit, I believe that it could be air escaping the bowels from stuffing there face with our faces. Right?

escaping gasses from the gastrointestinal track. Those aren't moans. They are mouth farts.
LMFAOOOOO I literally just busted out laughing. Nice one!
I hope it was a laugh.
I haven't turned and have no desire to, so it was a genuine laugh :)

I meant Pheeeeeeeeeew, as in relieved.
This discussion is horribly off-track LMFAO
really..
In an effort to bring it back onto track... :P

I like to believe, as I've previously stated, that zombies' heart's havn't stopped and they continue to breathe.

Reanimated human body(partially working organs)>Viraly infected brain>Altered brain state>Acting upon instinct and primitive mind function>moans = unconscious expression of their desire/need to feed.
I've said it in another discussion that I believe the virus takes the place of oxygen in the blood or the blood itself and kills the human then reanimates the corpse. It can have the same affect on corpses that have been dead for a time. There is still blood left in the muscle tissue of a corpse that's been dead for a time. The virus is potent enough to multiply and take over with the smallest activator. Animal brains are not complex enough to handle the reanimation and complexities of the transformation in the system. They become sick and die. Their eyes glow and they may even show signs of rabies prior to dropping over. They can carry the virus but the likelihood of them spreading it through a bite isn't high.
But couldn't an evolving/mutating/adapting virus rule that out? Making them 'zombiefied'?
Seeing as virus do have the capacity to hold on to previous data in characteristics and the like?
