They're all over my neighborhood!! I've got to get somewhere.
I have enough gas to go about five miles which gives me four choices. There's a high school close by, a mall, a hospital and a high-rise hotel. No military installations!!!
I've heard you shouldn't go to hospitals, but it's got a helicopter pad on top. I would go to the mall, but I think it's been looted.
Please advise!!
Hurry!!

if you know where everyone else is running towards, stay away from those areas and lay low. Zed will follow the screaming refugee snacks until they are devoured. This should give you a little space to make your next move.
high rise 1st choice:
will have a better stocked kitchen and an elevator to take the food up top. plus you can use the elevator to crush zeds until the power shuts off. with there being multiple floors you will probobly have quite a few fallback options should your environment be breached.

High school, 2nd and last choice:
will probobly have better security both by design and will also have a woods/metal shop to fab up barricades. it should have at least some food, likely frozen, but no beds and, since its not as high, the constant moaning will get to you alot faster. the A/V room should have a ham radio so you can communicate with others.
If I head for the high-rise hotel, I hope to find some cloistered survivors. I'm really more afraid of being shot by one of them than of Zed. I don't have any weapons except one small hatchet which wouldn't bash a rat's skull. I use it only to buy myself a second to get out of arms reach. I'm pretty quick for someone of my age. What's the best way to avoid being shot by some trigger happy redneck?
I wouldnt think that someone staying in a hotel would have a gun, so that would limit other gun wielders to people looking to hide out there like yourself. most people on the run like that would have a limited amount of bullets and hopefully wouldn't waste those on the living.
Some people are shooting first and thinking later. I've already had to dodge one jerk who thought I made a good target. Almost wanted to laugh when I outlived that dude.
luck...

if you can take the elevator dont stand in the doorway when it opens...hopefully people will know that zeds cant operate elevators but...

the stairs, keep an eye out and keep to the walls...

if its fairly easy to tell the zeds from living then there shouldnt be a problem in making communication if you do see someone...
Have you seen some of the survivors? Filthy and bloody. They have their own crazy running-on-empty look. The only way I can tell is that they freeze when they see me...Zed keeps coming.
I have to say that the High School would be my first choice. There's a lot of weaponry if you check the gymnasium, the wood/metal shops and the school police officer's office. So, high school would be my #1
There's a police officer's office? I didn't even know that.
Yeah, most schools nowadays have a school police officer. And he has his own office. So yeah...
High rise. Hide in the HVAC system, plenty of vending machines for food and drinks and, you can drop stuff out of the windows, like tv's, to conserve ammo.
Having no gun...I have no ammo, but I'm a little claustrophobic...I don't know how long I could do the HVAC thing (HVAC? Sounds like an sexually transmitted disease). Can those goons climb stairs forever? Or do they fall over after a couple of flights?
