Permalink Reply by Michael T. Douglas on September 30, 2011 at 9:58am I can understand an oath and everything, but there is no reason to die pointlessly. Troops were sent to Iraq to topple a government and find weapons of mass destruction we found no WMDs and we oppled the government in three weeks, yet, we stayed there for almost a decade and for what: terrorism. I can understand fighting against terrorism. I understand going to Iraq for an immediate threat against the U.S., but threat was resolved and we still stayed. Once I'm in the military, I will fight terrorism with a passion, but there are millions of places and people all over the world that are just as dangerous as al-qaeda or the Taliban, are we to purse them, too? We can barely keep our heads above water in the current economy.
I only bring this up, because I think the president acted outside what was right for the U.S. Since you swore an oath to protect the Constitution of the United States, I believe it is not only your job to take orders from the president, but to know when the president is wrong and to act against those orders in such case.
