Which calibers will be here after a few month/years of zombies?

now, i wanna know what yall think would be the rounds to stand the test of time.
what do you think will be here after everyone spent most of the rounds on earth.
granted, i know alot of you may reload your own ammunition, hell i use a 5.7 so
im kind of stuck reloading my own, but eventually the powder, brass or projectiles
will run out and youll be stuck trading off your stuff for some ammo.  what do you
think will be most common?  what do you think would "cost" the most trade wise
of those common rounds?

It depends. I reload so as long as I can pick up brass and develop primers I will have 45 colt in the very least. .223 Rem/5.56NATO, .308/7.62 x 51, .45 acp, 9mm, 30/30, 12 gauge and possibly 7.62x39. Possibly some other calibers but military calibers will be the most common.
Hmmm, good question. As a civilian, when I go into an gun and ammo store or big box store what do I see the most of? I'd have to say the more mondaine stuff for hunters like 30.06, .22, 9mm, .38, shotgun, etc. I think I could make it a while salvaging these types of ammo before I have to break down to a bow and or melee weaponary.
I agree with you completely, There are millions of .22LR alone all over the United States, it would take years to shoot up all the surplus.
5.56 , 7.62 and 9mm should be in abundance due to the fact that they are primary milatery calibers, but that no guaranty, .22cal is good to stockpile because its cheap, lightweight, lethal at close range and in abundance, so much so that i have over 10,000 rounds on hand at any given time..I can get it on sale a few times a year for $10.00 per 500...if I could only get 223 and .45 that cheap, going to look into reloading myself. and listen to anything PRIME_Ω_PREDATOR tells you about weapons, he seems to know his shit more then anybody on here.
I forgot 22lr. .22lr should be available.

I'm no expert. I'm sure there are more knowledgeable folks around. Hell, I hope there are.

I think majority of the common cals would still be around, as there are ways in keeping guns among the living along with us. like:

casting bullet heads from various materials (lead, lead/tin, steel, etc)
mixing gun powder, as it is way too easy to make it, of course it wont pack as much punch like the real stuff but it'll work.
foraging and casting shells, like the bullet heads, it is easy to form liquid brass into a shell for almost any form of gun cal
and-
making primers, from what I herd it's tricky but simple to make primes to punch into reloads.

so, after a few years the more mechanically made bullets will become a rare commodity compared to the hand made bullets

as for .22 long rifle and .22 magnum, I think they'll slowly become extinct because they'll be too damn difficult to reload as their shells are either too small or too thin to fit into the presses.
You guys aren't considering muzzle loading weapons, yes the are massively slower and less accurate, however they are very easy to maintain over along period of time, and it is much easier to make "reloads" for them.
No one is considering the fact that the machinery to make the bullets will still be there. You just have to find it. Raw materiasls will initially be stockpiled but after that you have to find sources. Should think about locating local custom ammo makers in your area. If they have the materials to make custom ammo they can make common ammo. The major ammo makers are located in a couple different places in the states. Lake City is the big Military handler. Google and see.
With guns far less prolific here finding ammo on the shelf will stop pretty quick. Hell my local store didn't have any 45/70 on the shelf at all last time I was there, most things they have one or 2 boxes of except .22
For that reason alone I always keep 1000 rounds loaded and have the makings for 1000 more for each gun I own.
,223,.243 270,303,308,30/30 and 30.06 are probably the most popular rounds for hunting down here, unless you are after Cape Buffalo they will drop any of the deer species and any native animals we have and the bigger gun stores have some on the shelf. You'd probably find 7mm mag and a few of the other smaller magnums but once you are out of the big towns that stuff would be scarce even in good times.44mag is a popular caliber in lever guns for pigs but other handgun cartridges are going to be harder to find since there are fewer hand gunners around than hunters and most load their own for target work.
.223, .308, alot of hunting rounds, and 12, 16, 20, and .410 gauge. 7.62x39 and 5.45x39.
also unusual calibers, thats why .270, and .28 gauge are nice
