Like pen and paper tabletop... Dungeons & Dragon style? then i'd go with ALL FLESH MUST BE EATEN by Eden studios or GURPS by steve jackson games (you can do anything with GURPS).... a couple of others are out there if ya want to know BUT those 2 seem to be the best that i've played / run...
of course though you could be asking about video games.... then i'd stick to the classics like Zombies Ate My Neighbors or Resident Evil (1-3) or even urbandead.com (free low tech but fun)... hope i helped ya
The problem with All Flesh Must be Eatten is if you get bitten that's the end of your character. Its like basicly having 1 hit point. Dungeons & Dragon's zombies aren't like the ones in the Night of the living Dead/ 28 Days Later movies. Though I've been been talking with my gaming group about writing a Night of the Living Dead themed adventure for AD&D. Any thought people?
with all flesh ... the one bite and you're next in line to be walking dead, is only an option (and i play it without that option for the reasons you stated)... I played a Night of the Living Dead theme for D&D... the "key" for the DM is totally gory detail, more description tends to mean fear to be instilled on the Players... do be careful of going overboard , TOO MUCH detail & PCs tend to react as if it is a spoof...
Was it a specific module or homemade adventure?
we tend to tweak modules, or just do home made stuff
I've been playing all flesh for a while. we pretty much have a temp cure for if you're bit, but if you dont shoot it up fast enough you're probably fucked. its all pretty lenient, just depends on your DM
All Flesh is Awesome. The whole getting bitten point is fine, but if you have a great ZM, you ressurect and get to play as a zombie. I love that game.
I've totally made up my own Z-day Game, only mines kinda different then todays standards. It takes place on a spaceship in deep space, and my "PC" are Mercs hired by the Government of earth to go out and find out what happens, takes place in 3010, and it deals with a lot more than just zombies. But I have custom made hit charts, and things, and a Body chart, where at certian distances, you roll a % to see what part you hit, as I also do for the Humans. Each body part has its own AC, and HP depending on what the user is wearing. I think its a lot funnier thinking of your own shit sometimes than just always playing the old school shit.
You could always use the "Afraid" hack for "Dogs in the Vineyard" just theme it, I personally like this system because it gives great room for narrative combat sequences.

Now, if you're more of a trad kind of guy... nWoD supplemented by "Antagonists" is a good option.
Running an All Flesh adventure right now. Great setting and am ok w/ the Unisys system in general.

You can customize your Z's to be as strong, fast, smart, or contagious as you want. Pretty versatile and gives a fair array of character templates, etc.

Agree w/ bringing back bitten PC's as Z's. Give them memories of the living or something and they can be a real pain for the party.
