The other day when me and a few buddies were at the range shooting our zombie paper targets we got to thinking how much fun it would be to make some videos on how to effectively fight zombies. Ya know like specific weapons training and drills, survival, and tactics, etc... We thought maybe in the format that the magpul: Art of the dynamic
handgun is done in. Very informative and fun handgun training video to
watch. We actually have modified El Presidente and Mozambique drills that we run with our handguns and shotguns for fun against our zombie targets.
Did a search on YouTube but came up with practically nothing, except for one vid on a course that some guys setup. Looks like a blast!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxT95_9cXI8
Anyway it would be fun to see people make some vids, wouldn't have to be anything serious. Maybe get a live action zombie survival guide going...
Yeah, we might get to making one when we can get the time and the money. Also I need to buy my own camera... Hardest part would be to find a shooting range in my area where we can have more freedom to set up targets and what not. I don't know anyone out of city limits that has land to go shooting on so kinda screwed there.
Hey, If I was near you Prime I'd be game to go shooting with ya!
I've heard of the 'Mozambique' technique but not 'El Presidente' what's that one involve?
Realistically all I would have access to in a real world zedpoc/end of world scenario would be either an over and under 12 bore shotgun from the farm a couple hundred yards down the road, or a side by side 12 bore that one of my neighbours uses for grouse shooting...so realistically the drills would not be much use for me (point and shoot would be as much as I would go lol)
BUT in terms of Lost Zombies I have a ridiculous amount of props for scenarios ranging from farming, home defense, industrial supplies (eg industrial blasting charges from mines) to military grade stuff. So if anyone wanted to work on a vid like you mentioned showing techinques then that would be fun and completely do-able
The El Presidente drill was created by a Marine Lt colonel Jeff Cooper, some consider him the father of modern combat pistol shooting...
Anyway the El presidente is generally used to gauge a shooter's skills. It tests the draw/reload, and requires good transitions and follow-through.
To setup the drill you need 3 targets spaced a few feet apart in a straight line. The shooter will stand with his back turned away from the targets, gun holstered, hands at a relaxed position. Given the start command the shooter will turn, draw gun, and fire 2 shots at each target, transitioning from left to right. Then reload and shoot 2 shots at each target from right to left. The drill should only take a shooter a few seconds to complete... any more than 6 seconds is considered a poor time.
Like I said earlier, we run a modified version using zombie targets. We aim our shots at the head and sometimes use more than 3 targets. Its fun but I have only been able to do this twice since I don't have a place to shoot like this all the time.
Also the drill can easily be modified to run an over under 12g shotgun or any gun for that matter. The way I see it, "Train how you fight, fight how you train!" Not everyone is gonna have access to military grade weaponry. Thats why I think it would be fun to have people contribute some training videos on being "Zombat effective", whether it be how to use a carbine to fight, all the way down to how to kill a zombie with a fork! HAHA!
Never heard of the El Presidente. We call the Mozambique the "Failure Drill". 2 to the chest one to the head. The 2 to the chest fail because the target is wearing body armor so you take the headshot to finish him.
