i think it would be vikings best suited

vikings woul've just sailed away. You also hav to remember world populations were different back then too. I think medievil england could've held off in some castles and the archers could've picked them off I guess....
The ancient Romans.

They cremated their dead. ;)
medieval and early modern Spain. They had the experience with fortifications, and with breaking through fortifications...also they had the will. They brought down two major civilizations (Aztec and Inca) without stopping to worry about being outnumbered. i wouldn't be surprised if they somehow made zed into an army of slaves to cultivate their crops for them.
spartans, samurai, not ninja's though... greeks and romans were very logical, and a zombie outbreak would be something to deal with, and swiftly eradicate, not something to panic over. they didn't have the best weapons to deal with them, but they did have the brain power. also, the mongols, they had amazing military power, shot arrows from horseback, and just kicked ass.
until the northern Europeans overran them
the chinese dynasties woldve kicked mayor zed ass!!
