Allllriiight everyone, now that my gear and supplies are good(except my grappling hook system), it's time to find me a ride. Of course fuel will run out eventually, but in the beginning vehicles will play a vital role in survival. This is my idea for a scout vehicle.
I have an Isuzu trooper to work with. Nothing fancy, but she'll do. On the sides, front, and rear I was thinking of layering steel, plexiglass, and more steel. The steel I was thinking of using 1/2 inch thick plates and the plexiglass is gonna be 1 inch thick. No armor on the roof in case we need to make a hasty retreat. Both back doors will have a sort of pillbox look to them with fire points. One more seat will be put in the back and there will be a fire point from the back as well. All of the glass will be replaced with plexiglass. Maybe an escape hatch in the floor too. The passenger side will have a turret mounted ak. Pretty sweet idea I thought. Do you guys have any ideas?(no chainsaws)

Which kind of Isuzu Trooper do you have 1st or 2nd gen? I think the 1 gen would hold up alot better for this project, but I've got to agree with Prime, they aren't going to eat the metal. Plus, the glass isn't going break easily. I mean, zombies won't get in your car. I would put like a snow plow and some tire chains on that or maybe one of those old timey Cattle Catchers on the front. Pillboxes, and turrents wouldn't be needed. Maybe a sunroof, a very large sunroof.
Eh, I'd stay away from a sunroof. They aren't hard to pry off. You get in a crowd of zeds and all of a sudden you've got them climbing through a hole in your roof right above your head.
Not too sure, my guess is second gen. It's a 2000 model. And again, the armor isn't meant for zeds, but unfriendly humans. And yes, the pillbox designed back doors are a must. It goes with the armor design. If moving, the armor will deflect more than 50 percent of the bullets energy rather than absorb it. An ak 47 with steel core rounds won't do shit to this baby. I've been experimenting with numerous variables, and finally came up with the design I am using now

It's second gen, later 2000 model. Put some shit between those doors and you should have good armor. Run all of them over.

Like everyone else said, Bars over the windows and phone books or plywood and plexiglass in the doors.

Im in agreement with Prime the need for armour isn't going to needed. I would consider working something out for the windows as a complete last resort. Ive seen rail system setups for cars that will close wide windows off with metal luvered sliders. It would be noticable from a distance, and wouldnt add weight. I mean if a window did get broke and you were stuck in a place, it would be possible for a zed to get in. So having a fall back would be nice, but you shouldnt get stuck in that situation anyways, the keep to survival will be planning ahead. Not planning for worst case.

For godsakes get ride of the turret ak.

armor that thick will slow your vehicle down something awful, mate just some wire over the windows and you're set
Yeah, the armor isn't for zeds. It's to help me smash small obstacles and protect me and my crew from unfriendly humans. I mean, do you really think people are gonna be calm and collected in a zpoc? NO!!! It's gonna be like mad max or fist of the north star.... with zombies
Well what vehicles would yall use and what would be done to them? Keep in mind something like my ASURA(nickname for my apc) will be roaming the wastelands. Lets say Im not too friendly, what's stopping me from killing you and taking everything you got?
Hell. You're stopping you.

The Isuzu isn't that wonderful on gas as it is. Put that much armor/extra weight on, and you'll be lucky to get 12-15mpg. And you'll have a hell of a time getting it to 55mph.

My tiny car on the other hand...will easily make it about 400 miles from you on a full tank of gas and can double your speed in almost half the time.

You don't need anything fancy. You need distance and supplies to keep your ass alive.

A decent get away plan, some extra fuel, supplies, and minimal armor would be the way to go.

Throw some phone books in the doors, and build some simple window cages that can be bolted on quickly.
i'm with you man but instead of phone books fiber glass over plywood will stop a 9 mil round all day long. honestly i think that's what you gotta worry about small arms. its lightweight cheap and easy to do, im mixing up a batch from suv in the future.
Im not trying to start a vehicle debate, but in my opinion the best bugout/zpoc/weekend fun camper you can buy relatively cheap is a used Army m1009 Chevy Blazer, and a 1982 or somewhere round about is perfect. You can pick them up all day long for around $3000-$5000 depending on how much work you want to do on one. They run the 6.2L Detroit Diesel. Their good for around 22mpg highway, and around 18 city. I dont know if Ive ever given my thoughts on my reasoning for diesel over gasoline but here goes. In the US, Canada, and Mexico the majority of the vehicles produced are gasoline. The reasoning for this is that gasoline burns a little cleaner in most cars, and isn't as noisey...blame the old folks on this one boys and girls. Anyhow back to my point....I don't have the exact figures on it, but their diesel market makes up something like less than 20%-15% of the fuel market in our continent. Therefore, I am of the opinion that if shit hits the fan your going to be much more likely to find diesel, than gasoline and any abandoned station. Even without power a hand pump can pump 20 gallons of fuel from a tank in minutes. Even if their almost bone dry, those old tanks can easily old 100, or so gallons of fuel that can not be sucked up without a line, and sometime. A battery drill, and a drill pump attachent bought at home depot would be a great addition to a bugout kit.  All some food for thought. Ive posted links before to 100dollarman.com before, but he has the old m1009's for a reasonable price as well as some bigger toys if anyone is interesting in looking. Checkout the bobbed Duece and a half they sell......fucking awesome.
I agree. The full size Blazer is awesome. Check the Link. And there are parts in every junkyard.
