i'll start if off.....it's not really the best idea....more of a attempt to slow them down....around your 'base' just put whatever you can in the way....some abonded cars, old chairs, and any debris you can find to block the paths....the zombies will have to 'make their way around it' or just slowly climb over it....thereby giving you more time to take them down ...it will also make for a somewhat better escape because most of the zombies will be slowed down by the walls of debris
By suspending yourself in the trees, you might actually be able to get some sleep. Plenty of things could complicate this, but I don't think overnight travel is otherwise safe without predetermined safe locations.
I would consider your attic to be the most defensible position in your house. A basement would be a bad idea because you're backed into a corner. If you could get safely in your attic, you would be out of reach of most hostiles, and you could break through to your roof and jump off to escape. If you go with this plan, then put your emergency supplies and survival pack in the attic ahead of time.
Another defensive measure is run trip wire along your perimeter. Every 15 to 20 feet, run the wire through two holes punched into a soup can. The soup can will have in it 4-6 marbles. If something trips on the wire, then a big rattle lets everyone know.
I have been told when looking for a lost child the first thing you do is start following down hill slopes unless there is something makeing noise in another direction , if you are traveling and can camp on a hill top you might be able to avoid contact because wandering unmontivated un dead will probably not climb a hill , I am making a lot of assumtions here but i think wandering zombies will follow the path of least resistance so keep that in mind when traveling and camping.
i'm heading straight to the mountains in my area. i think the hilly terrain will be ideal for more then just defense. i will be heading to a ski resort, where i have the advantage of the high ground and plenty of look out options. and of course the snow in the winter will be a plus.
There is an easy access road but i would be weary of traveling it. i would do it, but it's kinda old and hard to see around curves. (i'm afraid of heights! lol) not that i couldn't prolly overcome that fear in the face of other ones coming behind me. know what i mean?
an island the only problem with this idea is when the outbreaks hit 3 lots of people with travel to the sea so if you do get or buy the island make sure you have a good defense for these intruders like hunt with bows on the island and keep the guns for more imediate disasters
the big problem with an island is the unimaginable amount of zombies that will be coming out of the sea onto your island and if you get overran, where you gonna go? read the book by max brooks. world war Z he goes into details about this. there are far easier places to get to and much safer.
yeah but thats why i plan on this one island with basically two huge hills on it cliffs even and for the other stuff a boat all i have to do is get someone to modify the boat to have spikes going downward at a angle to stop them from getting up on it
