Bubba, most of the guns spoken of on this thread are a shotgun of sometype. Saiga 12 is a Russian made semi automatic shotgun, most all the weapons referred to above are shotguns. The first post the guy is talking about a Dragov, the one above you is a Smith and Wesson 500. Every other post is a shotgun lol.
I don't get it.  I am talking about a shotgun.  Just with a rifled barrel and a 12 gauge slug.  I'm giving my opinion.  It would be much easier to get a successful head shot from a distance than using shot.  One would have to be pretty insane to use a shotgun at close distance anyway.  Unless you feel like breathing a fine mist of infectious zombie blood.  BTW, I love the Saiga.  Beautiful machine.  Of course nothing pisses me off more than a gun jamming on me.
For long distance shots, Im going to stick with my AR. I spend the extra money to get a gas piston AR over the standard gas impingement version, highly recommend it. Ive put it through some really nasty torture test, and never had mechanical failure. I do understand your idea on using slugs, but either way its still a shotgun and their still not as accurate and distances over 80-100 yards. If I can I would definitely not want to get closer to a zed than that.
I HAVE CHANGED MY MIND IN THE ABSOLUTE UNLIKELY HOOD OF FINDING ONE I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A SCAR-H WITH BATTLE COPE AND ATTACHED SHOTGUN

I have a SCAR H its a great gun and I will definitely drag it with me if any type of apacolypse ever happened, but the one thing Ive found wrong with it is the fact that getting parts for it is a bitch. I have not had to replace or fix anything on my gun, but I started pricing things to see what would be easy to find.....well lets just say none of it. There are no gun shops in the state of Florida that carry any type of parts kit for one. If your on the move during any type of apacolyptic event, finding parts for your primary weapon should be of great concern considering that all weapons systems even the might heart AK 47 will eventually break. If I can make a recommendation take a look at a AR 15 that uses gas piston, instead of gas impingement. I own one made a M6A2 by LWRC(Land Warfare Resources Corperation, and it is a phenomenal firearm. It is just as reliable as my SCAR H, and every part on it can be obtained at almost any gun shop. Plus the miltary uses the AR 15 platform, as well as every law enforcement agency. If the shit hits the fan, you should be able to find parts somewhere. Either at gun shops, or guns that have been left either because they failed or the operator was killed. Another thing is it fires 5.56 which will be everywhere. The .308 that the SCAR fires will be harder to come by.

There are alot of companies out there offering a gas piston system now. DPMS, an dozens more. Check them out, I think it might be a good way for you to go.

I HAVE A WEAPON FOR U A PAINT BALL GUN CUSTOMIZED TO FIRE MOLOTOV PAINT BALLS OF COURSE THESE ARE PUBLICLY SOLD YOU WOULD HAVE TO MAKE EM YOURSELF BUT ITS EASYJUST FILL WITH TWO LIQUIDS THAT CHEMICALLY REACT TO EACH OTHER AND EXPLODE ON IMPACT WITH ANYTHING SUCH AS HYDROBLYCERINE AND CARBON DIOXIDE THAT WILL FIZZLE BUT NOT EXPLODE UNTIL THOROUGHLY MIXED
Promag now makes 50rd drums for ruger 10/22 rifles. There are also 25rd curved box mags from ruger. With that many shots who cares if its a 22. Theyre not expensive, ammo is cheap and they are reliable guns. Whats not to like.
