Whats your pick for a Primary weapon for both Defense and Offense? Must be longer then a AK-47.

Mossin Nagant sniper rifle.
The Mosin Nagnant is a good gun, but its old. Their are other highly reliable sniper rifles out there that are lighter, and fire better rounds. Personally I like Sako TRG 42, which fires .338 Lapua round. Very....very....very accurate round, with great kinetic energy on impact.

Custom 98 Mauser in 308, currently fitted with a Leupold 3x9x50 but about to get new glass, probably a 6.5 x20. Glass is in qd mounts and a folding ghost ring is there for back up. Reason for choosing 308 apart from being a good hunting round is that in a SHTF situation 308 will be easier to come by than say 338 Lapau.
M107 Barrett .50 Caliber anti-Material rifle.
In my city, 12.7mm. ammo is easy to come by.

Sako TRG 42 is my choice for long range sniping. It fires the .338(8.6x70mm) lapua rounds, which have excellent operational range, and dont weight you down like carring .50BMG round. It does sorta fall out of my thinking about carrying rounds. I try stick with fire arms that fire the same rounds, but Ive found that because of what I want to be able to do I will be carrying at least 4 different rounds.

I have not seen one in person yet, but they look like a fairly good rifle. I have a Ruger mini 14 that like anyone who has owned one knows their nail drivers. They will pretty much take any beating you want to give them, and just keep right on firing. If you look at my post on the best weapons for a zombie apocolypse my gun selection has evolved a little bit. It is always changing, I think anyone who likes to shoot, and likes to collect changes their mind everytime they pickup a new gun they like.

Gimme Gimme Gimme the Sig 551.  Reliable as an AK-47 shoots better than an M-4.  Swiss guns rock the house!

love em, mags are a pain though

It's true that I have had some difficulty with the large plastic magazines for my Classic Green.  They are expensive, hard to find, and when double-stacked (which is a great feature of these magazines) they don't fit in North American sized double-stack mag pouches.

On the other hand, I can always get a laugh out of my friends when I stack all six of the mags I own, load em' up and shoot with a wall of mags sticking out the side of my gun.  It's not practical, and definitely not easy, but it is entertaining to watch.

Has anyone here had a chance to try out Hornadys' new Z-max bullets?  I'm quite interested in how they perform, but they are a little hard to come by in my home and native land.
