It will rise from our own fear.
There is nothing to fear as much as death itself, simply because it will be the end of all we know, you will float in a river of nothingness.
Some say they don't fear death, could be, but they are lying and someday existence will hear the call of our fears, when strong enough, a beckon call to existence and it will answer from the vast spaces between the stars, with a terrible curse. Existence will simply grant us our wishes. Eternal life. If we got eternal life then we would surely look like Zombies in a couple of million years. Bored as Hell itself.
Surely we would be roaming the earth aimlessly, looking for the one last sane person to put a bullet in our brains.

Immortality experiments is very possible cause of the zombie infestation although, i think, in a pseudo religious way, that nature itself (being more creative than human minds) will grant the mutation needed for undead "life".

Natural Evolution or in the form of a Virus as so many movies play us on?

I personally believe that mankind in its infinite curiosity and stupidity will create it, think umbrella cooperation only it wont be done on purpose

a virus or even something inconceivable. as my friend told me the other day : it is only reality that exceeds imagination.
and as everything is a part of nature, so is the science of man natural evolution, not controlled by undying forces of nature but as you wonderfully put it, "we are guided by stupidity"
an umbrella incident is highly plausable.

we are perfectly aware that what we do, we never really know what we are doing cuz we don't know the effect of our actions, i think it will also not be on purpose.

this is what we are led to believe through movies and what not, but if you look at it more closely a parasite has the same capabilites same organic structure and is not as easily identified, easily transmited through body fluid contact or water supplies....the possibilites are not as norrow as just a virus

although i don't have the scientific knowledge or gear to further study the "ghoul" phenomenon and/or structures of diseases, i still believe it can be of whatever form, viral or parasitic, causing re-animation. Even an alien life form or energy absorbing crystals like in (another movie) the movie "Andromeda Strain" i do believe in extra terrestrial life-forms (who doesn't when everything is alien?) but my gut tells me it's also gonna be something from this earth.
maybe we are even carrying the "immortal" inside us right now?

So a possible inert viral parasitic or bacterial strian contained within the human body.... Ive yet to contemplate that

It is possible that some sort of event (nuclear contamination, radiation, chemical poisoning etc) could cause a mutation in the human body (and the organisms it shelters) causeing it to reanimate upon death.

If you look at the book for Andromeda however it states that the virus (the one within the book not zombism) came form earths atmosphere therefore it would be terrestial, the movie could be different I havent seen it yet.

An alien organism (in my opinion) would not be capable of causing such a thing for 2 reasons: 1: it would have to be a carbon based lifeform with the same genetic structure (DNA) as earthborne viruses or else it could not survive in our atmosphere.
2: Simply put it would have to survive entry into our planet somewhere in the nature of 7800 degrees centigrade due to atmosphereic friction, no known (keyword is known) organism can do so. The liklyhood of it contaminating the pilots of a space vehical (if they are present) is slim due to the sterile and pure oxygen environment. The possibility is there but unlikly


I'm sort of intrigued that no one has brought forth a religious point of view yet. I would say that that would be an interesting debate

They will want an upper hand in the market, and what's better than fearless, near invincible soldiers? Just protect their skulls and they would be invincible to inconventional weaponry. They will be like Ghouls murdering soldiers on the front lines without effort. So there is my idea."

Revolts will lead and they will probably be broken out. Someone will be stupid enough to spread it and bam. Full scale invasion of the dead all over again."

I`d Agree to this idea is most likely, a military black book project to create "Super soldiers"
by enhancing the body structure somehow, or as most films suggest reanimate living tissue to regenerate itself.
and as games suggest the "dead" will or will attain skillets and mutations based on the individual "dead"
so over time a Z could for example build build more leg and arm muscles as part of a mutation due to perhaps the human was a steroid user when living.
