.22 rifles, love 'em? hate 'em? they're good rifles, they look like toys, but can kill with deadly force, living and dead , that is.... with a clean head-shot. they're good for small game from rabbits and squirrels, all the way up to coyotes, and are light small , and the ammo won't weigh you down, so you can carry hundreds or thousands of rounds, put into perspective, a .22 can kill a zombie just like a .223, .30-06, .30-30..... and on and on, because you need a headshot from a short distance 30-45 yards they are limited in some sort, but ammo is sold at every sporting goods store that sells, firearms, so ammo shouldn't be hard to come by
I have a Winchester Model 320 Rifle (.22 slugs, semi-auto, bolt action) It kicks ass! No recoil, fast firing speed. The only thing that sucks is that it takes like 5 mins to reload. Overall, pretty good gun :D
22.lr and l are very good .
I saw a .22 auto for 250 in the paper.
i should of bought it.

Danny you are very correct in your .22 thoughts they are very deadly and are great in sub sonic for suppressed weapon and best pick for lever action tube feed or box mag bolt action
so good job in bring up the .22
.22s are fun to shoot, and the ammo is so cheap it's practically free, but I question it's stopping power on a zombie. Most cheap .22 ammo is solid lead, and is not jacketed like most other ammo. Lead is a softer metal, and may not fully penetrate the skull. Brass or copper jacketed .22 ammo is a little more expensive, but may offer greater penetration.
Even if it does penetrate, the bullet is likely to lodge in the brain. A small bullet lodged in the brain is a potentially survivable condition (even to a living human), and may only slow a zombie down.
.22s are too under powered, especially coming from a pistol, to be effective.
Bottom line is, a round that will ensure the majority of gray matter is painted onto the wall behind your target (like a 7.62mm or better yet a shotgun slug) would be preferred to what amounts to a metal spit wad.
