Someone posted this earlier, but I figured I'd elaborate. Hell, I've got plenty of time on my hands tonight.

So in your opinion, when choosing your place to live safely with the circumstances presented to you, what would be the best place?

I would say in the country would be the BEST location. Close to a small town with a population of one thousand or less (of course). Even though you're still outnumbered, chances are that there are/were survivors there before you. They either became zombie food, or they fought back, outnumbering the undead a bit. Either way, I'd say it'd be better to live on the outskirts. Even in the dead center of a small town like that, you would be in constant danger of one of those one thousand creatures attacking you. Not just zombies either. Crazies, Raiders, etc.

If that small town housed a prison, it'd most likely be on the outskirts of town. The prison would be best suited. Those fences are very strong, there's usually like two or three fences to get through, it has numerous rooms, a mess hall that would be stocked extremely well, sometimes a library, a gym to keep yourself in shape, an armory, generator, fuel for the generator somewhere, an infirmary, plenty of space for people, blankets, clothing, etc.

You could use the prison grounds to grow your own crops during the growing seasons. Not to mention, the building itself is like a fortress. There are also guard towers you could use to spot enemies trying to infiltrate your protected safehouse.

That is just one of many places you could hole up at. Give me your thought and opinions on this. Thanks!

what is wrong with you? do you read the name or are you just really stupid this group is called the zombie survival guide not the crack jokes because this is just a big one. dont diss other people for thier beliefs (on the off chance that this was a diss against the government and that this was not an insult to people who believe in zombies but to the government that they  are trying to cover stuff up in general and it is a joke i am sorry.

Jim, I don't know if that was your contribution or not, but it was a well thought out story. I believe you may have been high when you tried to troll with this!

You're right, but not everyone has that luxury of owning a cabin. Still a great idea, though!

i agree with the prison idea and the country idea that is exactly what i am looking for but for emergency if someone is not able to find one a 2 story house would do fine ,listen to this-fertilizer that is what will keep you alive. have a very -VERY LARGE store of food and water and put it on the second floor of a really really sturdy or even strong brick would be better and brake the stair case (do not for get your supply of molotov cocktails and a big bell or multiple cans of air horn.then when all of this is accomplished and you have managed to avoid detection from walkers go to your nearest gardening store or facility and take as much bags of really big bags i should say of fertilizer and surround the house in a mountain of earth cover all form of entry as well as possible and stack the fertilizer in the bags around your house for a stable wall but becareful it is riskier with this next step. ten after several days begin attracting the hords of zombies to your house and then once your are sure they are nicely tightly packed and many more are streaming towards you through -1- Molotov cocktail into the hoard then close all openings in your house as best as possible because over the next several weeks the decayed flesh will burn and smell like shit the reason for the dirt wall was to keep the hoard from literally crushing your house and making the second floor a first floor diner party AND DIRT DOES NOT CATCH FIRE BUT THE BAGS WILL AND IF YOU SET YOUR HOUSE ON FIRE YOU ARE FUCKED becareful, do not try this unless a case of emergency's

Seems like there are too many risks involved with this one! I do like the idea of the bags of fertilizer walls around the first story. It would possibly conceal your smell to the lame-brains. Elaborate more, or think on it a bit!

Hmmm...I live on the mountains, but there is much more land and two big ponds up on top of the mountain. So, I'll be dragging a camper and some fourwheelers up there. The only thing I would need would be things to fish with. There is more game than I have seen in a long time up there...So i'm not worried about food. There is a very large area to grow food and other crops up there. The town I live in only has about 200 people in it, and they are mostly old and country folks. There wouldn't be a great place for my chickens but, I would find somewhere for them. I would just worry about the coyates getting them. They were down at my house some couple of months ago. It would be a great place to go, just not during the winter. The winter would be a very hard time, no crops, very low egg rate from chickens and also fish usually sleep the winter at the bottom of the pond. So, We would have to raid houses during the winter. The only thing I'm worried about is the next town over, Beckley, Which has around 12k+ people, which I think is alot. That just gives us more houses to raid.

I don't think the prison idea would work very good...because, lots of arrests would be of attacks on people. In which the dead would be trapped in the prison, also the people would have taken the arms and useable things from the prison. Also, you have a chance of inmates being there and armed them selfs. There are advantages to the idea like disscussed above.

All in all..I'm heading for the hills and only raiding when I need to.

Sounds great! I live in a small rural town in Kentucky. Not many people are in the surrounding towns, so I would probably have to deal with a population of roughly 3000 people? (Maybe more.) That's a rough estimate if you add up the population of every surrounding town, and my town put together. Not many to deal with. Now that I think of it, I don't know of any prisons around here. I might have to head to my grandfather's farm, or my best friend's house. He lives in the country as well!

Your idea sounds bulletproof pretty much, and you did bring up a strong point on the prison. I wasn't thinking very hard on this when I threw out the idea of the prison. If you had a group of people, you could always do "The Walking Dead" method, and have you small group of survivors slaughter the zeds in the prison before inhabiting it. That brings up too many risks, though. Not the best choice, but I believe a prison is a great last resort!

I say find a fencing company and set up a perimeter and get a .22 rifle or something that uses .22 ammo because it is plentiful and cheap with a big magazine and just shoot them in the head. also get a machete. If you can't find a safe place then find a prison with one of those riot vehicles and add armor and switch the water cannon with a flamethrower, mg42 or some other type of gun. Don't do what the people on the walking dead do.

In the case of a zombie apocolypse I'd live my life on the water. zombies can't swim or atleast they don't as far as I know. Stock my friends yaht with a lot of food and water and sail my way along the coast. Add a water proof anti aircraft gun and armor the outside a little in case of looters. I might find a small island, clear it of zombies and grow some crops, find some fresh water, hunt and sail off again and come back later to resupply
