During an outbreak, may it be zombies or an infection (rage virus), most people will first grab their trusty baseball bat or fortify their houses, but what about keeping yourself safe? What can you do if a zed grabs you from behind and bites your juicy neck?

The first thing you should ever do in an outbreak is get dressed properly.

Underwear
Men
This is no time to choose between boxers or briefs! Put on boxer briefs. They'll keep you safe from chafing, and boxers let your dangly-bits hang around for zombies to come and grab. How would you like to become a zombie by ball-bite?
Women
Does it matter? You don't have anything hanging out, and as long as you aren't wearing baggy granny-panties I think you'll be fine with a sexy-lace thong for all I care.

Pants/Shirts/Jackets
Regardless of gender you should stick with denim, leather, or any other tough material.
Denim
Denim is a good choice because it's tough, but at the same time it can be pretty heavy. Denim also doesn't breathe very well, so be careful on warm days of overheating and taking a heat stroke.
Leather
Leather is one of the best choices for clothing. Try to take a bite ouy of leather. Can you do it? I didn't think so. Leather can come in all different colors, sizes, and shapes. When picking leather, don't make it skin-tight or it won't breathe. Wear a size only slightly bigger than your own, that way it gives you enough room to breathe, and enough room to keep out of zed claws.
Trenchcoats/Kneecoats/Etc.
I know you look cool with that authentic Matrix trenchcoat you bought on eBay, but face it, it's going to trail behind you, and any chasing zed will grab it and have you flat on your ass in no time. For your own sake, please don't wear one.

Head Protection
Motorcycle helmets tend to work well for head protection, but they're also bulky and muffle sound. Go with a football helmet and design your own face screen out of a sheet of plexi-glass. That should keep you nice and safe.
Also, always wear a bandanna over your mouth and nose, and some clear goggles over your eyes. Any of their blood gets in any of those areas and you're ma zed before you know it.

Footwear
For footwear I can only reccomend combat or tactical boots. They're comfortable, very silent, last forever, and look cool all at the same time. Running shoes might seem like a good idea, but as soon as you hit all that debris that's going to be lying around, you're going to twist an ankle or hurt yourself on nails. Combat boots and tactical boots are meant to endure lots of pain, they'll keep you safe.

Gloves
Always, always, always wear gloves in an outbreak. Preferably leather or construction gloves. If you can get your hands on tactical gloves, then by all means wear those, but until you get those stick with leather or construction. The most unprotected part of the body in a zombie outbreak is usually the hands, and some people will get their fingers bitten off, or punch a really bloody zed in the face before realizing that their hands are covered in not only cuts, but the blood of zeds.

Please stay safe people. Take my instructions and don't do anything stupid.
