I've been reading the posts on barricades, types of buildings good for stay, and all that what-not, but sometimes you just don't have time to hole yourself in someone else's house and wait it out.

The worst things happen fast, and can be unexpected. We can be taken out of our safe havens in an instant, whether it be the Biters running us out, stupid people who ruin it for everyone, or poor leadership within the group.

How would you keep things like that from happening?
What would you do in you were overran from the start, with only a gun, a few rounds of ammunition, and your battle buddy?

PLAN PLAN PLAN.
If you can make a plan and stick as close to it as possible things will work out for the best.

Have a basic plan for any disaster. Adjust as needed.
It is essential to have a bug out plan, and a bug out bag. I would keep a large backpacking backpack in a closet by the door. In this backpack should be the following:
-General first aid supplies
-Side-arm
-Ammo
-Melee weapon of choice, preferably with whet stone (its also good to know how to sharpen it)
-Non-perishable food items
-Small sleeping bag for cold climes
-Signal mirror
-Matches in waterproof container
-Wind-up flashlight
-Wind up radio

Make sure to keep in mind how much your bug out bag (BOB) weighs, make sure it is appropriate to what you can carry long distances.

Also, its not a bad idea to have a bug out location in mind. If so you need to make sure you have scouted this location and know at least 2 routes to the destination.
