Basically i have read a couple of different scenarios about what weapon would be best. I am going with a shotgun. Its unmatched all around. The rounds are easy to find and cheap to buy. The shotgun is easy to maintain. Plus it can make a great bludgeoning weapon when ammo is out. It is also easy to re-load. I also like a M-16 type rifle. It holds many rounds in a easy to reload magazine approx 30 rounds. The bullets are easy to make and reload. they have ok stopping power. You are able to send many rounds down range. It has been proven in combat and mostly you can upgrade it.
One must always have a side arm. I prefer a .40 cal pistol. It holds more rounds than a .45 and way more stopping power than a b.s. 9mm. It has stopping power close to a .45 but the drop off to bullet gained ratio is not much so i go with a .40.
I think that if you say "Sniper Rifle" You are truly a retard! Unless you are a trained professional sniper (and I'm guessing you're not) then dont use it. Even with trained snipers who have had this discussion with me have said that they dont think that it has a place in door to door zombie combat survival. Its way too complicated and not feasible. Sniping should be reserved for a fortified position where your distances, bullet drop ratio, elevation, angle of the shot, your rifle 'dope' are standard and known. Then, all you have to do is add in your wind and barometric pressure (depending on the distance). Sniping a head shot on a still target is hard enough then add in all the other variables, next to impossible for the lay-person. See my blog that i wrote in response to an IDIOT who said that he'd use a 'sniper rifle'. I have too much respect for REAL snipers and know enough about it to assume that I can just put the cross hairs on a zack and just pull the trigger. Sniping is NOTHING like in the video games. Get that through your head! Again I am only talking to a small majority on here. The majority of you all have pretty good heads on your shoulders and are smart. You are constantly surprising me with your ideas. I'm basically talking to the pre-pubescent males who play too many video games and seen too many movies.
Oh yeah. You need a primary weapon. If you just have a bat or a crow bar you'll tire yourself out too much too quickly. Its great if thats all you have or if it's your back up weapon but not a primary.
I want to know what you thing about primary weapons, side arms, and reserve weapons and when you should have them or have them all around or with you. What do you think?
Great choice, but I wouldn't use a SAA simply because it carries a little bit of rounds. Even with modern upgrades the best you can probably get out of it would be 8 rounds. Plus, it would take some skill to wield a gun like that since every shot allows the expanding gases to essentially burn you with every shot. However, you did say that it would be YOUR choice and I'm positive (no sarcasm) you know how to use it. ;)
Wouldn't buy em and not know how to use em. I also own a Glock 27, a Glock 30, a High Point 9mm Carbine, a Mossberg 500 defender(12 gauge). When it comes right down to it I'd use a 2x4 or a piece of firewood if needed.
You know, I was looking over the previous posts and I was just wondering, would anybody use a S&W M500 or a Seliska 600 if they had tons of ammo for it and of course the gun?
Not really, although they could act as both a firearm and a bludgeoning weapon. Too big to be practical in a firefight.
My first thoughts for firearms is basically anything in a .22, preferably both a pistol and a rifle. That way you only need to carry 1 type of ammo, which is lighter and more compact, plus a .22 in the head will still drop a zombie just as well as the elephant killers everybody else is talking about (and yes, in case you were wondering, I am European).
My only qualm with 22's is that the round is so small and doesn't cause as much cavitation as another bullet does. Since its so small you have to be totally accurate. That is hard to do when zombies are coming at you and could be running (Maybe). I like the idea of the same caliber for ease of reloading but I'm Firm with the shotgun as a primary (semi-auto and preferably magazine fed of course) One more thing about .22 cals is that they are made from lesser quality material and are more prone to jamming. If you were going with .22s i'd suggest at least a .223 (Military 5.56) round. That way you can have more volume of rounds and they are WAY more devastating than a regular .22 and they tumble just like regular .22's.
After you posted this i asked a fellow gun nut and we both agreed that the amount of damage is significant and could be used not only to kill Zacks but also shoot locks, it wouldn't be worth it or very practical. Dont be like some other people (No one on this discussion thank God! Everyone here has a good head on their shoulders. No sarcasm intended) and get all this weird shit thats not practical and end up weighing you down.
Now. That being said. I PERSONALLY would like to have one of the S&W 500's just to have some fun if I could!!!! Defiantly not practical in a real zombie scenario but fun as hell!! And Hey! You can always need something to help you relax during those times.
I just read all these replies and I'm so glad someone mentioned Mossburg earlier back. Great guns, easy to handle, and pretty reliable/accurate. I'm a Mossburg fan, but my heart has always belonged to Remington rifles.
Seth will slap me when I say this, but my sidearm will be and always will be a .45s&w Baretta px4 Storm. Can't help it- fell in love with it the second I shot one. "Girl gun" or not, that's what's going to be in my holster. Still deciding on what kind of bigger firepower I'd like to have, but I don't think I'd choose a rifle. I'm pretty sure I'm going to narrow down to a semi-auto personal assault weapon. There are so many out there and looking at them are so fun that I don't think I'll ever really "decide" :)
Well you know my stance. I like the semi auto shotty, magazine fed like the one in your profile pic! LOVE IT!!! no need for too much accuracy which is great when the horde storm you!!! LOL
Well, the make of the gun isn't really my concern too much. Baretta make nice hand guns. I'm just happy you are going with a .45 S&W. I'm kinda tired of the .22 caliber argument. 'Well, .22's tumble!' They say.
Yeah and they are inaccurate as hell, made with crappy ingredients, and don't have any power!!! Even if they were accurate, you'd still have a hard time to sight in on a zombies head and hitting it. Then, add in a possible tense, high adrenaline situation and you and your rifle are pretty much fucked. I bet I could imagine a scenario and have a .22 be ideal but where a .22 is good, others are better.
At least you have a .45 in your pocket. All that matters is what's best for the individual. You could shoot the best handgun in the world but if you like the Baretta and are more accurate with it, then use that! I say, "Good choce."
Oh no problem! This was a VERY interesting discussion, because the replies had actual thought put into them.
Yah, I don't really get the point of the .22 in any zombie scenario, unless we are blessed with George Romero zombies that move about as fast as iceburgs in the Atlantic. This is why, I always scream, when posting questions or comments about firepower in the zombiepocalypse, we need to SPECIFY which type of zombies we are inquiring about.
I'm also no opposed to using a .357 in most cases. Great stopping power but a kick that makes efficiency for we girls drop a bit, when faced with groups or a full-on horde attack.
