I dont think they could.
Noteven learn really because of thelow brain activity...but maybe...
Well, I believe Zombies can problem solve and use team work. On the subject of team work, How do Zombies tell each other apart from humans? Is it a psychic connection or somthing more mundane?
I think that they can sense our body heat much like a snake can, though I could be wrong.

could be smell

ywa i think they can but it would proply take there whole life justto start it and every human they infect gets that triat you see what im saying and every evolution they have is passed to the nxt one they infect
I guess that everything can evolve over time, but really I think that the evolution would come from the "runners" as opposed to your typical zombie. The typical ones are dead, and as such they are slowly decaying, just like you would if you died normally. Over time they will not be able to do anything as their musculature rots off. The runners however, the ones who didn't die before they were turned, they are the ones to worry about.
Oddly enough Land of the Dead touched on this. Since the zombies there did get the mental capacity to problem solve in a few ways. So I guess it would be possible. Even simple single cell creatures could in fact "learn" things or at least stay away from things that would cause harm...theoretically.
Honestly, I don't think they could evolve because of the virus being already completely infected in them. Maybe the strength of the zombie would somehow evolve, but the brain activity of the dead is basically at a point where any new information they can gather gets attacked by whatever is infecting them. With the brain actually shutting down when the person dies, the brains information completely disappears, but can't grow with the virus eating at it. Plus, I think the shock of the brain dying and revitalizing like that would completely lower any other chance of evolution, but that's my opinion.
I believe that any kind of walking or swimming being can evolve. I even believe that zombies can evolve, but I also think that they decompose ether as fast or just a little bit slower than a normal dead body. Because of this I do not believe that a Zombie would have time to evolve before it fell apart into a mass of body parts.
Not only that, but beause they do not communicate with each other on any real level (apart from their "over here" groaning noises), even if one did evolve, there would be no way for it to pass this information on.
A zombie can not evolve but the disease can.

Pulled from my response to another thread,

• I think of zombies as homo- mortuus, a sub-species of homo-sapians. This distinction occurs as a result of an infection, of a yet unknown origin. (I think that the initial infection causes a gene mutation allowing for reanimation)

• Based on this assumption, I think that these creatures can and would evolve, thus leading to faster, stronger, more intelligent zombies. Due to the spread of infection I think that it is plausible that the rate of “bite mutation” could be has quickly as every three generations or iterations.
