much respect Saint that is what i am planing, i have found a few sites to help make the gasifire if you want i can send you the links, and some of the things i ead on it you can get a pick up to go about 55mph which is pretty decent especially if you dont plan on flooring it every where you go.

thanks that would be great, are you going for the world war two style of the newer open lid style. i like the newer one better but it is harder to make. 55s fine for me, i'm more for power over speed.

What if you condensed wood gas? Then you could carry more fuel and even take it off road if need be. I just don't see a fire staying lit when you're driving down a bumpy road.

thats what i'm talking about, wood gas is what comes out of a gasifire. but you need to heat up the wood to make the wood gas with a fire. this all takes place inside of the gasifire.

no problem, http://www.mdpub.com/gasifier/index.html, this is the only free step-by-step i could find and it looks pretty good. i haven't decided on which still ill go for but im most likely gunna make this one. also im with you on that, power over speed FTW!

i had a intresting thought the other day, if you go with the open lid style you could put a grate on top so not only does it power you truck/car you can grill up some food when theres some down time.

There is a way to distill fuel, although it takes some time and special knowledge. I know that it's similar to distilling alcohol and that it doesn't take too much special equipment. My advice is to look for a truck station or refinery near you, or even an abandoned eighteen-wheeler if you drive a diesel, because most people can't drive them, so they're a little more likely to have gas still in them. Gasoline can sit for around five years and still be useful. A few months back, my friend and I cranked over a car that had sat with gas in the tank for around that long. We'd swapped the motor to one with 12:1 compression. The higher the compression, the better the gas should be if you want it to run well - for instance, most cars with 13:1 compression or higher, need at least Premium, and most people run anything higher off of Race Fuel, which is prettymuch the same stuff that helicopters run off of. Anyway, after a few tries and some starting fluid, the motor cranked and ran strong. Off of five+ year-old Regular Unleaded, and with a stock ignition system. Keep in mind that if you're going to store gasoline (in or out of a car), there are fuel stabilizers you can use that will give your gas months or years more time These stabilizers are cheap and easy to find and a lot of people might not think to grab them, so they might still be on the shelves after SHTF.

Kind of simplistic but it hasn't changed in decades. No doubt some enterprising person fould set up on a smaller scale and pul it off.

 

 

People have become pretty good at conserving and recycling too.

hmmm know that you mentioned i do remember watching 'the colony' and one of the people on there made fuil for an airplane motor by basicly making moonshin and boiling off and cooling the flamible gases

Thanks for reminding me. I saw that episode too. Hmmm. the crude oil beneath the US is called Sweet Crude. It is nearly diesel when it comes out of the ground and needs little distilling to create diesel fuel. You've got farmers making biodiesel on their back 40 next to the still. It can be done and the knowledge is not lost.
